I currently have an acan and favia in the sand.

Personally, I wouldn't place those types of corals in the sand. They have a harder time moving sand off of themselves if it lands on them. If it accumulates within their mouth the sand will eventually kill the tissue.

I would stick to Plate corals, Trachyphyllia, Acanthophyllia, Cynarina, Indophyllia, etc...

Yeah I find my Favia like to have stuff blown off them and my acans as well.
