I would like to play with some pics but don't know if I have what I need to do it. Did my Canon XSi come with a program that can do this? I would really like to play with the WB.

If not what do I need to get?

Found it thanks. And now the first pic I ever touched up. I need to practices but I think it got a little better. I picked a bad pic to start with just to see what I could do with it.

Yup, that is better. In that particular image, it looks like your original is over exposed by about 2/3 of a stop.

depending on how long ago you installed your CS and how new your camera is, you may need to update "camera RAW plugin"

its free right off adobes website.

It works wonders.

Dont forget to sharpen your pics, when shooting in raw the camera wont be doing that for you like it does in JPEG.

If I'm running Photoshop CS3, does is there any reason to install DPP?

When using CS the raw converter automatically has a default of 25 sharpening.

Also you can preview RAW files with Picasa (by Google)... a cool free program to view all your pics quickly.

Sharpening durring raw is not very effective given the size of the file.

To sharpen you want to size down the photo to something like 800 x 600, 100 pixels per inch...

Something manageable for web use...

Then use "unsharp mask" with a value of 90 or less (this is my preference, its goes as high as 500%).

Then you will see a major improvement.

This is not the only way to get there, but its an easy one.

For RAW processing, I like to adjust white balance and tint, exposure if necessary, and black levels.

Thats it.

The rest I like using the regular functions of photoshop.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Guys,

Thanks for all the hints. I didn't know what was a good value for the unsharp mask to that helps Junior. I did update the Camera Raw, so it's all good.

Man, you guys REALLY need to get Macs, Picasa, no preview, drivers...HA!

I plug in the camera, no driver, download the pics, and they all (RAW & JPEG) preview right there on the screen......

Windows is so.....well windows...
