If you eat a fish from your tank as well as some macro algae, is that "surf and turf" ?
Could anyone honestly eat something from our tanks ?

i guess technically … it’s the same as raising chickens , cows or pigs for meat .

It's like Aquaponics, I have done it with freshwater setup. I just moved and have to setup all new tanks. I was thinking about trying to see if I could do some sort of marine garden. I would start with feeding the fish the greens that it grows but eventually grow seaweed that we could eat as well.

Some algae you could try:
Green:
- Ulva sp.
- Caulerpa lentillifera
- Caulerpa racemosa
Red:
- Gracilaria sp.
- Porphyra sp.
- Gelidium sp.
- Laurencia sp.
- Agardhiella subulata
- Asparagopsis taxiformis
- Porphyra sp.
(coldwater)
- Chondrus crispus (coldwater)
- Palmaria palmata (coldwater)
Brown:
- Sargassum sp.
- Saccharina latissima (coldwater)
Plant:
- Zostera marina (coldwater)

Some of the rarer algae listed here (including the true plant) can be found on the links from post #135 (of this thread), as well as Indo-Pacific Sea Farms.

It would be stupid and irresponsible to eat the macros we grow in our refugiums.
I have tried it.
I’m still alive.
Chaeto still gives me nightmares but Ulva isn't too bad.
How did Chaetomorpha taste? It’s almost green spaghetti (and even commonly known as Spaghetti algae)!

I don’t eat mushrooms knowing how they’re grown .
besides . They taste like they’re grown in poop ….

something that doesn’t require light to grow probably isn’t healthy enough to eat .
Depends on what kind of mushrooms they are, hehe

I used to eat the sea lettuce from my tank. No I'll effects, and it was delicious!

Then I got spooked by zoa palytoxins, even though I have Z. sociatus, which has little to no toxin. I doesn't hurt the clowns, anyway, when they chew the tentacles off their host colony.

Dino also gives me cause to stay away. Even though I won the battle going the natural route, I know it could still be living in there in small populations.

I don't see a problem with synthetic sea water. There isn't anything in it that isn't also in the ocean.

Also, we eat vegetables that are grown in fertilizer made from poop all the time. We just wash it off.
