Having some issues with hair algae and my torches are not opening as much as they used to. Also my glass is getting dirty every other day instead of once a week now.
These are my number.
Mag 1440
Alk 10.20
Calc 534
Phos .01
Nitrate 4.2
Ph stay between 8.2 to 8.4
I know my calc is to high but would that stop my torches from
Opening fully.

Lighting has been the same for 9 months.
From 7 to 9 raises to 15% white 10% blue
From 9 to 11 raises to 60% white and 80% blue.
Stays there from 11 to 18.
Then goes down to 5% blue at 19:00 till 20:00.
I have three necrew 100

I run no skimmer but have a tunze macro reactor witch is growing very well.

Could the skimmer be the problem.

This is what the tank looked like a month ago.

This is what it look like now.

That phosphate is a lil tight…
I have to clean my glass about every other day…
if you gotta wait a week to clean your glass, I’d dump in more food…

More likely you’re reading low in phos and nitrate because it’s being quickly absorbed by the algae. How long are you running your algae reactor (lights on)?
From 8 to 8. Now that I think about it I changed my space were I I was growing the macro algae from the back of the tank with a light to the reactor around the same time. Could that be the issue. The reactor has the macro growing well in it.

You can run your reactor longer. Like 7pm to 10 am and see what if that helps. Or increasing the amount of snails/hermits

Is the algae grow making my torches not open as much?
Mm it’s possible. As you probably know there’s a ton of things that can tick off torches. Calcium is considered high but so long as it’s relatively consistent it really shouldn’t cause any major issues. Corals just don’t like crazy swings. I’d possibly move it to lower lit area and see if that helps your torch open.

Questions to ask yourself
1. Possible anything is bothering your torch?
2. Change in lighting
3. Recent change in water parameters?
4. Have you started doing anything different?
