My Tank Thread
So, I've been wanting to pull the trigger on some rare deep water species lately but living in SoCal my main display aquarium maintains 79/80 degrees. I actually own a chiller but there are two main reasons I don't use it.
Firstly, I run 2 oversized UV sterilizers, which you can imagine produces a ton of heat causing my chiller to constantly outcompete the heat of the UV bulbs and my power bill would be even more outrageous!
Secondly, space is super limited, I have all the gidgets and gadgets occupying my entire sump cabinetry and it would take a ton of rearranging not to mention messing up my clean aesthetic.
Anyways, fast forward to this week, there was a deal to good to pass up on a live sale @NYAquatic for a Bodianus masudai so I decided to turn my observation holding tank into a cold water aquarium.
I've loved all these deep water Hogfish and Groupers I've been seeing over the past couple years so this is the perfect opportunity to get my feet wet. If all goes well, I will have another reason to get a larger setup down the road. I mean ...I already have the chiller, right?
Beautiful fish, vibrant personality and wasn't the least bit shy, swam right up to the camera for his welcome home photoshoot. I took these pictures just hours after he was full acclimated. Enjoy!
