Is there any way to get rid of this burnt look on the top of my rock?. I can’t scrub it off so it’s like the light has burnt some algae?. My tank is 4 months old.

It is just the natural progression of a new tank. Mine looks exactly the same way and it's just over 2 months old. I have a green (under white lights) and looks brown under blue lights algae on all of the rocks exposed to the light. I can't scrub it off, and the hermits and snails pick at it all day. Just waiting for the coraline to take over.

All of the above. When you come out on the other side and it's covered in purple Coraline you will look back at this picture and laugh that you wanted to get rid of it. I know I did.

Thats good progression, its better than green hair algae which is where many are at 4 months IMO. But get some snails, I see none.
I’ve got some snails they’re just rubbish. I’ve got 3 nas snails, 1 turban snail and 2 astrea snails but they don’t do anything.

In my little 10 gallon I have 3 astrea, 1 trochus, and 5 cerith snails. They all do their own thing and help some, but I have 5 tiny little blue legged hermits, they do a much better job with the algae on the sand and rocks than any of the snails do.

It’s perfectly normal, this was my rock 2 years ago

And this is my tank now. I did change my aquascape and added some more rock.

Hermits are little psychopaths tho, I had a tank a couple of years ago and had two hermit crabs. One killed and dismembered the other and didn’t even bother taking its shell! I’m still traumatised!

I might consider getting one on it own though for tackling the top of the rocks.

My blue legs are still tiny. Maybe they become more psychotic the bigger they get? Right now they’re algae eating machines that take time out to fight with each other. No snail deaths or anything. I do have two big piles of shells at the front of the tank for them. They’re always changing shells like it’s Paris fashion week.

Haha what size tank do you have? I’ve just got the Fluval evo so it’s tiny.

Yep! Snails do better on glass and equipment! My blue legged hermits go to town on rocks

No it’s the opposite I’m battling nitrates and phosphates at the moment.
Battling in what sense? There are examples all over the forum of reefers with higher than the norm parameters, yet with beautiful, healthy tanks.

I also have an Evo 52l, and intervened before my NO3 and PO4 bottomed out. I'm trying to keep parameters at NO3 <10ppm and PO4 1.0. But then you see tanks with NO3 >30 and PO4 >0.2.

My phos was 0.24 but I’ve used phosguard and it’s currently 0.14. My nitrates are always 20+ and all I have in the tank is a cleaner shrimp and snails plus some corals. I feed the shrimp a couple of pellets of food every other day.

I’ve also got a bit of cyano on the top of the rocks that I’m siphoning out daily.
