Noobie here and I thought I bought everything I should need for my first saltwater tank (55gl). I will be adding only fish and live rock. I bought light in attached photo but it says for freshwater and live plants only??? I don't understand why I can't use it for my saltwater fish. Please help tell me why I can't or advice on what to buy please. Thank you!!! Here's the link as well https://a.co/d/4jLVI4n

The color spectrum will be weird and not “oceany”

It will have excessive wavelengths of red mixed in they are designed to promote growth of freshwater plants, and in sw, it will contribute to algae growth

If you are not doing coral there are marine lights you can get that would be better

You’re welcome! Gotta love Amazon!

The main thing is that the fw lights are designed for plant growth. In marine world…the plants are algae

You want coral growth, or a spectrum that minimizes “plant growth”

The deep cutoff in the red and green section are intentional

The light I posted would also be capable of keeping easy, low par demand corals down the line if you wanted to - zoanthid, mushrooms, softies like leathers etc

Keep in mind par is not visible. Par is not brightness. Just because the light is low par doesn’t mean the tank will be dim. It’s a bright light with low par. It will illuminate the tank fine, but if you choose to add coral they would need to have low par demands
