Bubba u ok?

Haha i was just logging on to ask the same thing!

No updates in a few days
Thanks for checking in! I’m still alive and well.

It’s my sons birthday party this Sunday and my wife REALLY likes to go overboard on decorating . She has been keeping me busy lately getting stuff ready so I haven’t had time to take any pics.

what kind of food you use for your tank both for feeding fish and corals?

I often have problems with heavy metals deriving from the feed, and I start to not know which brand of feed I buy anymore and I am forced to dose it little for fear of metals

I use tilapia, shrimp and scallops and sometimes I add clams.
I go to the grocery store to the seafood counter and ask for the stuff I want. I go home and put it in a blender and blend it until it's the texture I want. Put it in a ziplock until frozen and then I chop it up to cubes.

Do you add in nori or anything else or really just those 3-4 things? What about mysis or brine shrimp?

Hey Bubba, not to derail the food chat, but what are your favorite TSA acros? Seems like they have quite a few nice ones! I know they are "local" to you. Also seems like they may have a few good ones cooking, are they expanding?

Happy birthday for your son! Don't work too hard!

No I don’t add nori directly to the frozen food but I do feed it on a clip once a day. For the frozen food it’s just those 3-4 things but I haven’t added the clams for months (too much work). No mysis or anything else.

All together once a day I feed a sheet of nori, 7-8 cubes worth of frozen food and pellets are auto fed twice.

As far as the ones I own I think the Fruity Pebbles is the nicest. My frag no longer looks like their colony though. Mine has transformed into this red/pink color and the growth tips get multiple colors. I am really digging it lately.

The Princess Peach is another nice one. It’s a hot pink with red polyps. The growth pattern is what’s cool. As it starts to table it grows these short stubby tips that I like.

One that I don’t have but wish I did is the Star Scream. The polyps look exactly like their pics. Anyone who has seen this coral in person has been impressed. I want to get a frag but I want a larger frag than what they sell...

They have really nice acros but need to up their frag size.

They are expanding I believe.

Man your corals look great, mine have all turned brown but I think most of them survived my Black out for at least a week
Thanks!

I would be too scared to do a blackout that long. If they turned brown but still look healthy I wouldn’t worry. Corals seem to recover pretty quickly once the conditions are good again.

Thanks @bubbaque ! Yeah I haven't seen their frags in person, but it's kinda crazy the same corals are so far apart in price depending on frag size. Which makes me believe the cheap ones are tiny. I've seen they have some for around $80 and the same acro but larger frag for around $180. I'm too cheap to pay that much more for a slightly larger frag. Would be nice if they just met somewhere in the middle with size and price.

I ordered fruity pebbles, optimus prime and TGC Cherry Bomb from them yesterday. I'm kinda expecting them to be small, especially now. Lol. I have champagne taste and a beer budget.

You will be happy with those three. If you want the fruity pebbles to be more of that blue, put it in lower light. Their colony is at the bottom of the tank and was kind of in a corner if I remember correctly.

Now for a little rant.
Maybe I’m just really picky when it comes to frag size. I do think lately frag size in general has been getting smaller and smaller and prices haven’t reflected that. If you sell a small frag than make it a small price. I said it a couple times before but one of the reasons I buy from pirates reef is his prices comes with an appropriate sized frag. I shouldn’t have to pay double the price to get something that won’t take a year to turn into something.

I am part of the problem or should say was, as I will not buy small frags anymore unless the price reflects it.

I completely agree with you regarding the frag size. I understand the term premium but then what I am buying should be premium in every aspect include size. But paying $1000 for 1/2 inch is just don't justify anything. But again like you said we are the part of problem too.

I absolutely agree with different prices for frags based on size. It's a shame that to many now that means if the plug is partly encrusted, the frag should be "list price". I'm used to buying tiny frags, but for the right price. I got my homewrecker for instance from CC for $199. I do completely agree if you pay the "list price" of a "collection" frag, it should be a decent size, encrusted well and maybe a couple baby branches. If we are waiting a year for the thing to move over the plug and sprout some branches, it shouldn't be "list price", I don't care how new and hot it is.

In your experience do small frags do better than bigger colonies? I'm talking in terms of success when adding the frag/colony. It was mentioned it me that small frags do better. But to me this doesn't make sense. Getting a half inch frag that was fresh cut, in theory, should be worse off. I think getting these small frags is even worse when you receive it and see it was fresh cut...

I think when people say frags do better than bigger colonies is if the colony is pretty big. I don't think big colonies like to be moved but I've never bought a colony big enough to actually put that to the test.

Speaking strictly in terms of growth, the bigger the frag the faster you are going to see it turn into a colony, in my experience.

Exactly what I was thinking... the problem is we all know this isn't acceptable but are addicts and will still pay the price ;Facepalm the only thing we learn is which vendors are doing it worse than others, then you pick your poison from there.
