I ordered a larger U.V. than the one I am currently using. When it arrived today I was shocked by just how large it is! Curious to see how much it heats the water compared to the old one.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this tank come to life! I’ll be taking notes.

What kind of flow are planning on running through the UV?
It says the recommended is 2,600 gph but I can not produce that much flow. I checked yesterday and I’m getting 1,700 gph with the vectra L2 on 90%.

Probably because this sort of thing is used on fusion reactors for energy production. I believe both 3 Mile Island and Chernobyl used smaller reactors than this. If you start producing "Radioactive" colored acros, you know why.

Having said that, I'm certain you'll have a better outcome than either 3 Mile Island or Chernobyl.

I'm looking forward to your Nuclear Powered Reef.

Is the UV Steralizer the only thing that the Vectra L2 is feeding or is part of a manifold? That is lower flow then I would expect out of a L2 based on specs but I guess I should know better that companies like to inflate or "best case" flow numbers on pumps. I was hoping to get more flow out of them on my closed loops.

The water goes from the pump to the U.V. and then out the returns. I don’t feed reactors or anything else. When you look at the water you’d say wow that is a lot of flow but when measured it’s less than impressive. I used 2” pvc to the U.V. and then 1 1/4” for the rest of the plumbing up to the returns. Maybe part of the slow down is the 3/4” (Largest size available) locline on the 4 returns.

LocLine and the Bulkhead definitely makes a difference. I have an M2 on one side of my tank that just goes through the UV and into the tank, using 1" pipe. With just the bulkhead it maxes out at about 1100 out of 2000 GPH, but with 3x 3/4" LocLine segments and the NPT connector it drops about 20%, and with the RFG nozzle I lose another 20% or so, as measured with the Apex 1" flow sensor.

Bubba did you run uv on your other tank?
I did run U.V. but not every day. I used it mainly if I wanted to clear the water or help with any Dino issues.

I will only run this one all the time until the tank settles in and dino or bacteria issues are not a worry.
@bubbaque - What type of dog is that? Mastiff, maybe?
I have always wanted a mastiff but no I have two English labs.

Finally finished the thread. Man, amazing tanks, acro’s, and photography! I can’t wait until your 360 is back and thriving again. Best of luck on the rebuild!

Thank you!

Soon I’ll be taking pics again. A buddy is holding all my corals and I’m waiting for him to come into town and bring my acros. He said a couple weeks he’s coming to visit.
