I think we should ramp up the cost by changing those to xr30s pros kicked at a 10% angle, run perpendicular.

Here's a highly detailed schematic I made with my finger painting app

That will be interesting to see, how long it takes. A while ago there was some talk that it takes about a year for a dry ro k tank to get there with acro success. Are you using/seeding anything from existing tank? Your great success in other tanks makes me curious to see how it will go for you. Nice build BTW, really like the dimensions.
Thanks.

Nope not seeding anything from the previous tank what so ever. The tank will be started and ran like a brand new tank. At some point I’ll even need to buy pods to seed the tank with.

I really don’t believe the whole year thing at all. I believe the first year is more about new reefers learning through trial and error that causes the issues and not the tank. Who knows though, I may not be able to duplicate the success I’ve had. We shall see in time.

I used this when starting my frag tank and had coraline growing in about 6 weeks.

Lovely sketch, but there is too much red in the radions. Please add, green, cool white, warm white, deep blue, blue, purple and tint of UV....

I am going to use the aquaticlife fixture and 10 radion xr15’s. I’m not going to use the aquaticlife fixture as it’s meant to be though. I’m going to leave it separated and put two of the t5’s in the back of the tank and two and the front with two rows of radions down the middle.
Here is a master piece of a sketch on what I plan to do.

Great decision on the XR15's.
I wish I had 6 XR15 instead of the 3 XR30's.
It would allow much better coverage just to have the light pucks a little more apart.

Interesting product that I’ve never seen before. The only stuff I have seen is that Purple up stuff. I’m sure I’ll get some as my snails have it on their shells and when my tank goes through the uglies I’ll move them over to eat the algae.
I’ve never had coralline so fast but it spikes the you know what out of the alk. In its defense the bottle is for a 50 gallon tank and I poured the entire bottle into my 25 gallon frag. Alk was 8 before and 14 after.

Awesome experiment! I always thought the same thing and when I did my frag tank recently I put SPS in after a month and so far so good. Being a frag tank it is barebottom with 3 4" blocks of the MarinePure biomedia plate and a skimmer. I seeded it with 4 different brands of bottled bacteria and have a lightening maroon clown and CB yellow tang in it.

Agreed. Bottled bacteria help to get over the hump as does a lower, stable alkalinity IMO on a new tank.

For those asking about the bottom, it's Starboard (used on boats).

Cuts like butter, and everything grows on it (coralline, montis, zoas, aiptasia, etc.).

Why did you decide to start completely from scratch (no seeding from prior tank)?

Also, how do you plan to handle flow on this system?

The main reason I don’t want to use any of my previous rock is because of vermetid snails. I hate them with a passion! They don’t cause any issues but I hate having the little spikes on the rocks. Since taking pics is a big part of the hobby for me I hate seeing them in pics. I’m gonna try really hard to avoid them this go around.

For flow I am using four mp40’s on the back wall and one mp60 on the side.

How did they enter your system in the first place? Coral frags?
Im not sure but my guess is on a couple pieces of live rock I bought to seed my original system. 99% of reefers have them and if I didn’t take pics I’d probably reuse my rock but I just hate how they look in pics.
