Refugium Day 5. Was worried as I didn't see as fast of die off as the main tank. Added another capsule yesterday. Also discovered my cheapy wave makers aren't producing very much flow. Might have to upgrade.

Susan sorry to hear you have had a tough go of it with velvet and Ich. And then the bryopsis to boot. How is your tank doing now?

@Lninwa I kept it off 9 days which considering the die off was prob. way too long but some folk suggested the longer the better. I forget the minimum but it was more than 48 hours. Tank still has some small patches in the back or under some rocks. I'm giving it some time to see if it continues to fade out. There is still a lot of debris on the sand bed. I'm turkey basting the sand once a day. I had an outbreak of cyano and dinos following. Used chemi clean, and to rid the dinos, added a bottle of biospira (read that somewhere) and just kept blowing it off. Oh, cut lights to 6 hours. Also went back to vibrant and nopox as I'd tried to stop those. Once tank is stable, I'll see if I can stop dosing again but the vibrant really did clear the water and some of the "sludge" is gone.

Sand bed is pretty clear now so I'm pleased and corals seem to be happy once more. Suns are back out--they stayed closed for the most part during treatment and the white-tipped leather only opened at night. It's now opening during day. Nitrates are still high but phos is acceptable or too low. I dose then it goes too high so trying to find that right amt to dose.

Counting down days until I can put fish back in.

Refugium is on day 6 and I see die off. It wasn't nearly so bad. The two tanks are not connected yet.

So far, the main tank is looking good. Still a couple tiny patches but noticed today some have already died off without a second dose. Keeping an eye on those remaining. 2 thin spots under a couple of rocks. Maybe the cuc can finally do it in or maybe my HUGE pod population is having an impact. With no fish, it has exploded. When the fish come home, they will be very happy and maybe I can get that mandarin I want! So very pleased. Display refugium is coming along. One area nearly gone already.

Looks like your tanks are doing Great! I would like to make a suggestion for your cyanobacteria and Dinos. Get a UV sterilizer. Vibrant doesn't kill off dinos and it helps to aggravate cyanobacteria. They're both bacteria and that's what UV sterilizers do best is kill bacteria ;) I am hooking one up myself at the moment.

@prsnlty I thought I read somewhere that uv killed something good in the tanks. Not sure if it was pods? I'll have to see if I can find what. I added a bottle of biospira as I read that would outcompete the dinos for nutrients and it seemed to have worked. My sand is nice and clear. I have a chiller that has a built in uv and heater. I need to set it up outside and see what isn't working. Got it from son in law to see if I could fix. Hope I can. It's an expensive Teco brand

Started 2nd round in DT. Noticing more coming back so am hitting it before it gets bad. No pics this time as there are just a few areas, and those are areas that didn't get it in 1st round. Determined to beat this cr**. I used 6 caps. Not adverse in a few days to adding one more either.... Leaving skimmer on but no cup and put part of the air restrictor on just to control it--don't want bubbles running down back of tank! Day or 2 I can probably just let it wet skim.

Did a wc to refugium. Noticed one little patch remaining down low. Will hold off adding carbon back in. As there is no fish, just a bunch of macro algae and colt frags and cuc, I may just redose without taking the time to add carbon just to have to remove. I'll be keeping an eye on that patch

Fingers crossed...

There's two sides of the fence when it comes to UV and people using it or not. You have one side that says it will kill the good bacteria as well as your pods. The other side says no way it's not possible cuz your pods are still going to get through it doesn't filter 100% of the tank water through and then put it back in the DT. It's only a percentage of it at a time. Sure it might kill a pot or two and it might kill some good bacteria but the good bacteria is mostly going to be in your rocks in your sand bed and UV only filters what's in the water column.
