Brownish water

Hello everyone,

I have a 30 gallon tank and it is a few months old now. I have one shrimp and one clown in there for now. I did not want to over do it starting off being this is my first salt water tank. Water was clear until this past Friday when I did a water change. I have been having diatoms appearing and disappearing for the past couple weeks now but looks like they finally began to take over. My water also now has browning tint to it which I never had before. Just wondering if this is normal for the water color to change like this during diatoms appearing? *Pictures attached* or if this is something else I should be worried about. I also turned my lights off so hoping that helps. Looking for any tips to clean my water up and maybe some snail recommendations for clean up? Also fish and shrimp seem to be fine eating and acting normal.

What kind of filtration do you have on your tank? Are you running carbon? I don't see any powerheads and the water surface is still, what do you have for flow? How is the water oxygenated? Do you use rodi water or tap? When was the last water change?

I don’t have an alkalinity or phosphate test at the moment but ph is 8.0.. ammonia is 0..nitrite is 0 and nitrate is between 0ppm and 5ppm and salinity is right at 1.025.

Just a topfin hob with carbon in the filter now. For 75 gallon tank. Yes, I do have a power head running for up to a 50 gallon tank. I have my own rodi machine which I just tested at 0 tds.. I did a water change Friday morning 6/14.

I was thinking dinoflagellates. It is not common to have a pelagic bloom of dinoflagellates, usually nuisance algae plaster surfaces, but I have been able to generate such blooms in small experimental containers. These blooms can appear to be hazy water or when dense golden or brown water.

Just went through a six month plus bout with dino from nothing more than doubling my light output to see if I could grow GHA as an experiment for that in a Fuge. Same brown water that cleared end of day. That went horribly wrong.

No the water doesn’t clear up it stays same all day and night.
