Hi reefers! Yesterday I just noticed that my blue hippo tang has as brown spot with a little of blood in it, he’s in my 10g qt tank with two other clownfish, the tank was dosed with copper power, I made sure the levels were always correct, scared that it might be the copper, I just made a 50% water change to see if it gets better. Please let me know what it could be, as far as my research it points me to HLLE but i don’t know if it might be a simple scratch and I’m just worring for nothing. If it is somehing worrying for the fish please let me know what it could be and the best course of action, he still is as active and eating as much as ever, no shifts in behaviour.

Hi, that isn’t from the copper and it is not HLLE. It is either an injury or a bacterial infection, or a bacterial infection after an injury.

What is the ammonia level of the tank?
What test kit are you using to test that and to test the copper?
Is the tang showing any other symptoms like rapid breathing? You say it’s eating well, what are you feeding it?
Since you did a 50% water change, you diluted the copper, so you need to decide about redoing that.

Hi Jay thanks for your prompt answer, Ammonia is at 0 just tested , API saltwater tester and for copper I use the red hanna checker copper tester. If it has a bacterial infection, how would I go about it?

For a bacterial infections, you should treat with a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic - I like to use Neoplex.
