welcome and it does seem you're off to a good start.

One thing you might consider is a refugium filled with macro algae or an algae turf scrubber.

IME starting the tank with macro algae right from the start makes the whole system much easier and safer to run. The algae actually will consume ammonia directly which can prevent the ammonia spikes.

But that's just my .02

Would one of the hob refugiums work?

Yes. Anything to get the macros protected and balancing out the system will help.
IMHO there are better and less expensive options. For instance, on my old 55g I just used 1/4"plastic grid (egg crate) to partition the tank so the back part was a refugium. And added some lights pointing forward. Nitrates dropped to unmeasureable in 3 weeks and my 2 tangs really enjoyed grazing on the macros the poked through the egg crate.

Not sure if you have seen bulk reef supply 52 weeks of reefing on youtbe, but BRS went through one year of setup and progression of 160 gallon tank. You don't have to watch them all, but you will find yourself enjoying most of them as there is a lot of great information on many reef topics. Welcome!

Also, looking through tank builds can be very helpful. That is where you will see ups and downs of progress and could help you avoid the pitfalls and have greater success the first time.
