My tank lights come on at 7am, and very soon after illuminating my tank, my blue star leopard wrasse is out and grazing the rock scape. By 3 pm he is no where to be found and I imagine under the substrate already. Is it normal behavior for a Blue star leopard wrasse to be done grazing the aqua scape and ready to bed themselves in the sand by 3pm? Lights are out by 7 pm in my tank. I feed 4 times in that 12 hour period, and there’s a good amount of copepods in the system. The wrasse seems healthy and active, but I am new to there upkeep. Great fish and I’m enthusiastic for his good care, but I’m no expert. Any tips for longevity and success on this fish appreciated!

Welcome! Those are some beautiful fish. I'm not familiar with their sleeping habits but there are plenty people here that keep wrasses. Perhaps one of them will know more. :)

I dont have that specific type of wrasse, but my yellow coriss wrasse usually hits the hay around 4-5pm. Wrasses are silly he might just have a funky sleeping schedule!

This is normal! It’s not often leopard wrasses stay out for long periods and I’ve found they go to bed much earlier than everyone else.

You may find over time that she will be out for longer periods - maybe even until lights out.

Hoping my Blue Star Leopard Wrasse will eventually take to the evening. Super fun to watch. I acquired the wrasse and a Flame Angel at the same time, and it’s really cool watching them both graze the rock scape and follow each other. The Flame Angel is a juevenile and hoping its behavior doesn’t change as it grows into an adult, but for now the two fish are side by side, putting a dent in my population of copepods. Have 5 fish in this 158 gallon tank, and almost want to keep it at that, as the dynamic of tranquility is perfect! Next project, research how to get my clown fish to host an anemone.
