does anyone know how blennies breed?

I dunno, at first glance I was thinking snail eggs, but the weird thing is this fish won’t move from the spot and looks like he/she is fanning the eggs …I have two BTW

….My guess is snail eggs and coincidence….
regardless nothing will come of it, just curious…

Most blennies I know lay demersal eggs - so the eggs are laid on a hard surface and stick to it like clownfish eggs; PVC and other round plastic pieces seem to be popular egg-laying spots.

Edit: By the way, what species of blenny do you have? Any pics of the eggs/video of the fanning behavior? (It may well be parental care of the eggs.)

Ophioblennius atlanticus.
and that’s with medium confidence …
what surprised me was the lack of aggression but that also bothered me because TBH I’ve gotten fish from this particular vendor before and my last 5 cardinal fish turned out to be at least 3 different species …. similar, but not exactly the same …

the spawn was in the back corner so the picture is fuzzy..

my first thought was snail eggs but the hovering behavior looked like fanning…. weird thing was the fish not spooking also
still my money is those are snail eggs….
just not sure …eggs are gone regardless

…also, I’ve never observed any interaction between the fish
