Hello all,

I have a big birdsnest and it seems that he is bleaching from the bottom.
My question are is he started to die or it is just because since it is really big the bottom don’t receive any light ?

All the polyp are fully opened that’s why I’m confused

Thanks in advance

I have attached few pictures

I don't think that would be from shading....

Anything change with the parameters? You got a little bubble algae thing going on eh lol?

This is normal. I have the same type of orange flesh green polyp birdsnest. Stuff grows like a weed but it will easily shade out the base and lower branches and they die back, especially if you only have a single point lightsource.

Ok, anything to worry or not ? Can the bleaching reach the top of the coral ?

I'll go grab you a picture of mine to show you. The only other time I've had issues with birdnest was sponges creeping up the lower branches and killing them but that was easy to see and tell what was going on.

All the branches on the sand are ones I recently picked from the backside of the colony by the acro and stylo. Its let a lot more light in from that side and a lot of my tissue grew back down the dead lower branches on the underside. So it's not terrible rn but you can make out some of the lower dead branches.

Cut some frags if your worried but this birdsnest has to be the most bulletproof variety that I've grown. Ive lobbed off and sold football size colonies of it and it's right back to where it was in just a few months.
