I am planning on starting up a 20g long frag tank. I currently have a 20g cube display that has about 10lbs of rock and a package of Marinepure Biomedia gems in it. I've been running the tank like this for about 2 years.

I don't want a ton of rock in the frag tank, so I'm considering two different options.

1) I could move some or all of the Marinepure from the running 20g to the frag system
2) I could use some Eheim Substrat Pro from an old freshwater canister filter I have, placing it in my 20g for some time to seed it with bacteria.

Are either of these options better than the other? If I were to use the Substrat Pro, how long should I leave it in my cycled system before moving to the new tank? Are there any concerns with using recycled freshwater media?

Thanks.
