Same happens with my 29....I open it slowly as to let the water drip down into the tank....any lid that traps condensation from the tank will have this issue, like my 20 gal freshwater with a plastic hood n light....you just have to remove it slow and let water run back into the thank....

I use to have this problem all the time when my tank was new. Although, I still have condensation it isn't enough to run down the back of the tank when the hood is open like it use too. I'm not sure why it stopped.

I did aad an extra power head and I have the return pointed so that it breaks the surface of the water. Sorry I'm not really of any help but that was something that use to really bug me.

If you open your feeding hatch a while before raising the lid it helps a lot.. I have condensation real bad in the mornings on mine so I just started leaving the feeding hatch open at night, My tank is against the wall so I rolled up a hand towel and put it length way's along the the bottom behind the tank.. Anything that drips down gets absorbed by the towel and in a pinch if I need it I will pull it out to dry my hands or whatever it's nice that it's close but out of site behind the tank.

Open it slow and hold the hood at an angle and let the water drip back in. I live in Colorado where the air is very dry. Open top systems can lose over a quart of water per day, due to evaporation. I love my hood! Water condenses in the hood and drops back in. I only have to top off the tank once a week.

I know this is an OLD thread, but I’m posting my solution as others may be looking

So far this is my only pet peeve on the tank. When I first set up the tank I was anticipating this. My tank is about 6-7” away from the wall. So when setting it up i bought a large sturdy neoprene piece for a tank leveling mat. When I was trimming it to size I left about 12” overhang in the back of the tank. I have it scooped up and attached to my wall with two of those peel and stick hooks going through small holes I punched in the mat.

It creates a scoop at the base of the tank. I keep a rolled hand towel back there which catches the few drips. It’s a pain and wish the water catch was larger to avoid the drips. as little as I open it the towel dries fast. It also keeps any water from reaching the cords that go behind the scooped mat and then down to the power supply.

I’m not at home at the moment but I’ll post a photo once when I am.
