Bio ball question

I am setting up a fish only system, and i got a used sump with bio balls. I wanted to clean it out before setting it up and i took all the bio balls out. There was two 5 gallon buckets of bio balls, to me this seems like way to many. So my question...can you have to many bio balls

Just depends how many you wanna clean lol.... 2 five gallon buckets sounds a little over kill... How big of a system is it????

Um ya that's a little overkill.... If I remember correctly it's like a gallon of balls to a 50 gal lol....

I just use crushed oyster shells instead of bio balls.

IMO Bio balls are Good for two things. Headache and High nitrates. I just trashed a 5g bucket full away
