Hey,

I’m running a 75 gallon display with a 20 gallon sump that has been up for about 5 months with some corals and 6 fish.

I want to run some mechanical foundation to make my water extra clear and clean. Any suggestions on what I should use to get crystal clear water?

Filter socks or a fleece roller would be a good start.

EDIT : Disclaimer : I run both in multiple tanks but always have some particulate in the water even with a roller. I figure it's coral food. Crystal clear water is something I've never been able to achieve
If you’re looking from end to end does it look like there’s a sight haze? My water looks pretty clear other than that.

Maybe my expectation for clear water are too high lol

I use the mesh filter socks with fleece stuffed inside them. The mesh socks are great and super easy to clean. Way better than traditional filter socks. I will also run rox carbon in a sack in a sock from time to time as well.

I hear purigen actually works really well for clear water. Anyone use that product with positive results?

I think mine is clear but has particulates floating in the water and some people say they want to remove that. The water is not cloudy at all and I can see end to end fine. I've found that if I wait until the glass is filthy before cleaning it the water looks really clear after cleaning the glass lol

What does putting carbon in do?

Activated carbon (ROX is best) polishes by removing dissolved organics that can tint your water. Your skimmer also physically removes organics, as evidence by the colour of your skimmate.

Edit. I think that the larger the tank, the easier it is to keep the water clear. More water is more buffer, but that is predicated with the larger tank having a balanced bioload per volume. I would think having groupers, eels and sharks would make it tougher.
Just my thought on it, mostly from freshwater experience.
