Yes during the day its 8.15 to 8.2 and drops to 8 at night. How about you

I think ph is the key to fast growth so I try to keep mine high as I can.
Day time it hits 8.3 but at night drops to 7.95.

Me to. Most people say ph is not important but if you can keep it high you'll notice a difference. In the summer I can get 8.3 but not in the winter and it doesn't help that my tanks is in my basement.
Its not going to work, you two. I am not going to kill my Snipers by dumping a gallon of bicarb into my tank....nice try, though

I use lye for my alkalinity supplement to increase ph. It works pretty darn well, but can be a little pain to work with. It gets hot and melts the fat cells in your skin if you get it on you. My ph was maximum of 7.9 before, now I run 8.15 to 8.35 every day. Don't know how much faster the corals grow, but it definitely doesn't hurt!

My new system I just set up is running a calcium reactor, so not sure how I'm gonna boost ph? It's been holding at 8.1 for the past couple weeks, so I may not have to? Will be interesting to see what happens when I put corals and fish in there. I'm gonna put my first fish and coral in this weekend. After a 3 week "cycle" and all dry rock. Wish me luck!

My snipers blue is chugging along slowly. Didn't help it fell in the sand twice in the first week. It's safe and sound on a growout tile in frag tank now. Bubba and MRX frags are growing amazingly!

Co2 scrubber and playing with the idea of adding kalk to my ato to boost ph up a little more.

I actually think most frags are showing lots of growth.

I noticed a marked improvement in growth once I added my co2 scrubber. No idea what my ph actually is. My Pin Point monitor broke a few months ago and I still haven't replaced it. Dropped the dang thing and it just quit turning on. I was hitting 8.0 on a good day with windows open before I added the scrubber. 8.0 was my low and 8.3 was my high after adding the scrubber.

Obviously I was joking about you and MRX trying to sabotage the competition (as if you needed to) and I appreciate all the advice and exchange of ideas this thread is providing.
Your comments got me taking a harder look at pH (actually I hardly ever test that parameter). Given my living situation I expect there is some room for improvement. We are a family of 5 pet loving adult-size individuals. Currently our in-door pet count stands at: 5 large breed dogs, 3 falcons, 1 hawk, 4 cats, 1 African Grey parrot, two smaller parrots, 1 canary 1 chinchilla and several reptiles. Given that bioload I suspect the CO2 level might run a tad high.... It is also why I prefer to streamline the upkeep of my reef tank as much as possible (just too many chores with all those pets). So I am thinking I'll try running tubing from my skimmer air intake to the crawl space under my house (There is already a hole in the floor next to the tank as I keep my return pump and chiller outside, running the plumbing under the house in the crawl space) and see if that 'fresh air' source bumps the pH up adequately. If not, CO2 scrubber!
