Aussie Acros - Tank Parameters & PAR

hey aussie people, would you mind posting your water parameters and sps par? @Biggles @samparker @evanluo? @Ozzi-reef

i did a purse dump today and bought a wild aussie rainbow mille colony. it was so expensive the guy gifted me a couple others from the shipment ;Drool. any tips would be greatly appreciated!

so far the only aussie data point (i know of) is biggles has a spath under mh at 500 to 550 par. i have radion leds and t5s.

@samparker could you include more tech/parameter data in your vids? i watch em all, and it's like a huge wave of GBR sps hit the US, it'd be so helpful to all of us... across the big pond. and if you need a blue light filter for ur phone, i'll send u one *wink*

Those corals you posted are stunning. It’s thrilling to find gems like that. Congratulations.

I am wary of two things with freshly arrived corals, wild or maricultured 1) pests and 2) ability to thrive.

Whether frag or colony, whether wild, maricultured or fresh from your friends tank, pests are always a concern but it seems more significant or prevalent with wild colonies.

It really can be frustrating with new arrivals because they may not thrive as well as corals that have been generationally grown in aquarists tanks. In other words, these corals have not yet been tested by the limitation of our tanks in trying to mimic the ocean. Plus color often fades or changes on these freshly imported specimens.

On the other hand, this is exactly how new gems are found. Something special that thrives and glows with color. You’re a brave soul to try and spot that gem. I hope you’re successful with these two beauties. They certainly are stunning.

With LEDS I would shoot for 350-400 par From what I understand is that MH par readings are higher then LED par readings

Well I only have a frag of an Aussie Rainbow Shortcake, Acropora Microlados, but seems to be doing well. Under LEDs it’s sitting at about 300par with Alk 7.5-8dKH, Ca 430-440ppm and Mag 1280-1300ppm.

Ozzy acro is still just acro so same care levels as any other. Stable water and high light and random flow and I'm sure they will strive.

Hey Michelle, thanks for the shout out! My water parameters are no different to most mixed reef keepers, no secrets in my water! 1.026SG, phos around 0.06, nitrate around 2ppm, alk at 7.5dkh etc.

I haven't tested PAR for some time now and have changed lighting a lot since I last did. I kind of don't believe in having too much light.... I run 2x400w radium halides and 5 Kessil A360X on my tank and would happily add more if there was room!

I'll do my best to add more technical data, but it is a fine edge. It puts a lot of newbies off and it also gives people a reason to argue with me LOL.

I personally find, corals will adapt to most scenarios. Just give them consistent water parameters and you can't go too wrong.

From what I’ve heard and read from ppl collecting these guys, very high light, clean water (low nutrient), and very good flow.

They will loose color. This is not what they are use to. But they may change into something different/better in the far future.

plus i picked up some more aussie millie colonies about 10 days ago, they were dying so they were cheap, yay 350 par.

I run 2 radion g4 pros and 2 actinic 4 foot t5s over my 90 gallon and run around 350 par and just about all my acros are aussie wild caught and most change colour over a 6 month period sometimes for the better some not. It's a great game of guess what colour this acro is gonna be lol. I had a beautiful yellow with pink tips acro change to a light purple with yellow tips after 6 months, thats probably one of the most insane changes I have had with wild caught acros.

the pink is spreading, oh dear, maybe too much par? but the polyps are getting darker, a blah green maybe lower no3 and po4?

good news is it's splicing pink & gold... go aussie go!

im starting to think 550 is too high par at our current "low" nutrient levs. but then my cousin converted the GBR nutrient #s from a scientific paper, and the values at those offshore reefs were no3 0.027 ppm, po4 0.025, so a bit confusing...

anyhoo, the previously dying ones at the wholesaler (2nd pic) have some growth tips at only 350 par. they're at week 5.

so anyone have ideas to pull more color(s) outta the 1st pink aussie millie?

Maybe it only has pink to it? What colors are you expecting to get out of it, do you see hints of other colors? If everything is happy at your current levels, I’d be inclined to leave them be. Your levels don’t appear to be low, one thing you could do is just feed some more, if you even really feel it’s necessary. At this point, you really want to see if the colors hold, and it looks like they have.

I will try to post some pics but I don't take a lot of pics of my tank lately as I'm shutting it down to move over to a 180 gallon setup which is maybe a month or two off getting wet. I will try to get a shot of the light purple with yellow tips acro that used to be yellow with pink tips.

Oh and the pink milli in your pic is same as one I have and mine was wild caught
