Anyone with a Google Pixel 7 Pro that has taken pics of their tank?

You nailed it about the AI and blue light. It's like it was setup for white light. I kept saying this to the Google support gal I was speaking with. She kept saying the pics of her Betta tank are fine. I told her my freshwater tanks aren't a problem and was trying to explain a reef tank is a different spectrum if run with blue light. She didn't get it. I really need to speak with their developers to explain the spectrum problem. I'm sure I can get it to work with a bunch of filters applied but that's not the point for quick snappies. My LG G7 takes a decent pic of my reef. My very expensive pixel pro 7 takes a garbage pic under blue light. The flash is another problem. Here's a pic with the flash. The flash didn't even work properly. The support gal said it's because of the water. Like what the heck. My LG has no problem with the flash and water.

Can it remove fish you don't want in the picture? ;)

i do love that feature when we take pictures on vacations. No longer need to wait for people to get out of the shot lol.

Also don't shoot with flash. Bring in another light if you need more light.

Pretty cool.

I'm getting an old 6 Pro for a project I need a phone to be running 24/7 for. Does that do that trick as well? I mean removing things.

Was thinking of upgrading to an S23 Ultra from the S22 Ultra, but it's pretty much the same phone with a new CPU and better main camera, that's it, even looks the same.

Really miss my ROG Phone 5 and older Huawei phones...

Haha.

Was a toss up between the S22 Ultra and 7 Pro when I bought our last phones, but Google Fi was doing stupid good deals on the S22 Ultras. With the credits we got and $$$ off, we ended up paying like $400 a phone.

yea I remembered that deal, almost got a note. I have been on pixels/nexus since the first phone. Whenever I try a skinned android, I feel completely lost lol. Had a samsung for a month and the back/multitask button were swapped, drove me insane.

I do wish pixels were bit better in hardware but cant beat them in terms of software

The Pixel phones have long had one of the best, if not THE best, cameras on any phone.

Try shooting in Night Sight and use the color selector to make it warmer.
I second night sight, I have a pixel 6 pro and it is light years better than the LG v60 I had. My old eyes do miss the honking large screen of that LG tho.

I LOVED the ROG Phone 5 (cameras sucked, but GCAM installed on it made it OK).

When AT&T killed 3G we lost all voice on our Chinese handsets (VOLTE was not whitelisted for those phones) even though 5G was perfect for data.

Maybe if ASUS can really up their camera on the next versions of the ROG I'll switch again. The LED lighting was different and the battery was insane. Would need to get a US market version and pay a premium though.

Would get the S23 Ultra, if Google Fi does a crazy trade in deal and $$$$ in credits and savings. We'll see. No reason to get one though.

Yeah Google does seem to lack in the performance aspect... I don't game so it wouldn't matter.

How do you get the camera to focus so close, are you zoomed in? Just optical zoom or also digital zoom?
I use the telephoto lens and if you want to get even closer you can try using one of those macro clip on lens that come with the reef lens kits. Usually the coral is relatively close to the glass, and i am pretty close to the aquarium when taking the shots as well

These pictures are post edit. Here is a picture I took without any editing under really heavy blues with an orange filter.

so a couple of things you could try:
1. You could try turning your lights whiter
2. Use a lens kit with the orange clip on (orphek one is great, especially since you need the 55mm)
3. Try to let the camera auto adjust the color temperature. You can click around on the screen. Try focusing on another area
4. Use the color temp and white/black? sliders to get your photo more true to life

5. I find full tank shots extremely hard to get accurate, they will look very blue. You will need to shoot in raw and edit these if your goal is to shoot these. Try shooting something closer up. The tele lens is amazing on the pixel and that's really where it shines.
Thanks for this info. I have the Orphek filters so will try that as well as the auto adjust. Maybe I'm expecting this cera to do something it can't do under blue... Just point and shoot like I can with my LG. I'm not saying my LG auto corrected the image, the pics are still blue but the exposure is correct whereas my pixel looks like I'm shooting in near darkness. It seems confused by the blue spectrum. :)

Thanks for this. What does it look like without the filter? My problem isn't with filters or colour correction. My problem is that when I want to take a quick pic (no filters or anything) the pics come out so dark it looks like I'm taking pics with all the lights out. The camera (or processing software) seems to get messed up with the blue light and the pics are deeply under exposed. My old LGG7 doesn't have this problem. The pics are properly exposed.

Go into your camera settings and enable the advanced controls;

Screenshot_20230206-111001.png

Then when you tap to focus you can also manually override exposure and white balance settings to get it looking how you want. You can also manually adjust blue tone afterwards in the photo editor, just look for the adjustment tools.
