I replaced my aging refractometer with a veegee stx 3. My question is about the calibration adjustment. I have the screw loose to the point it's about to fall out but the ring is super stuff and I can barely turn it by hand. It also feels gritty when turning. Just wondering if that's the way they all are. If so I guess I can live with it but it's not what I expected from a $150 refractometer. TIA

The calibration instructions read:

"While looking through the eyepiece, gently turn the calibration ring clockwise or counterclockwise until the boundary line is at zero"

This talk about "Gently turn" does not match up with your experience of difficult grinding. I would ask for a replacement.

It sounds like yours got packed away wet at the factory and has corroded on the threads inside the ring? Otherwise, try WD40 or some other penetrant to free up the ring. But I would ask for a refund before I tried fixing it as that may void any warrantee.

Thanks. I will admit I did not read the instructions :face-with-hand-over-mouth:
