These are the beautiful eels i had gotten today and would like to know it's identification so that I can know it's maximum size potential to make a more comfy future tank for these once they get big

My guess for the third moray could be the kidako since they look quite a bit similar but i could be wrong

As for the second one maybe a muraena augusti? It was mostly the only eel species I could find which had a dark pattern, if more pictures are necessary just say so!

Haha, I would appreciate some pics - I'm struggling to get a good, clear look at the eels with the video (every time I pause it, the patterning on the eels blurs for me).

I will say, looking at the pics of the third eel in your other thread, that I would guess it's actually the Highfin Moray/False Spotted Moray/Mottled Moray-eel/Yellow-lined Reef-eel, Gymnothorax pseudothyrsoideus - they look remarkably like the Kidako Moray, but with the colors reversed (Kidako being primarily white with some brown while yours is primarily brown with some white). Plus, it seems to show the customary ~4 rows of the brown spots forming larger brown spots on it.

Thank you so much! You hit it right on the nail! Will this high fin moray keep it's colours till it's a adult or will it change? This is a remarkably beautiful eel and lucky enough that I could get it since it seems to be really rare

As for the pics on the darker moray it was a bit hard to get but here it is! (He is really and i mean really shy compared to the other 5 eels I have, hates the lights too haha)

Please let me know if you need clearer pics but the patterning does look similar to the yellow edged moray without the golden colour

It should lose most of the white margin on the top of the fin (though it should retain a bit of it by the tail), but to my knowledge the color should otherwise stay the same.

If the eyes are actually yellow like they seem in the pics, then I would guess Yellow-edged Moray (Gymnothorax flavimarginatus), but if they're actually white like they seem in the video, then I would guess the Greyface Moray/White Eyed Moray (Gymnothorax thyrsoideus).

For the really dark one, I can't say for sure, but it looks like Muraena augusti is a good guess - it should have tiny white spotting, two "horns" by the eyes on top of the head, and white eyes.

Thanks again! The eel with the cream colour is indeed the grayface but the dark one i expected to be a yellow edged because it has yellow eyes and a muraena augusti has white eyes

Ah, my bad there - I didn't realize I was looking at the dark one in the pics (you told me, I just didn't register it, haha). Yeah, looks like you've got both then.

This is the one I have no idea on, looks like my white eye (what you call a gray faced I believe) but it has yellow eyes.

This is why we use scientific names with wrasse. Way too many common names

Like two gray face? It really confuses me since the other darker eel looks like a gray face but with yellow eyes, does it mean that it's a entirely different species or just similar to the gray face like how the high fin is similar to the kidako?

Incase if it is a yellow edged will it develop the more darker face and yellow to orange colour as it grows? But it just doesn't seem to have that neon line on its dorsal fin

Indeed! That's what confused me, it looks like a adult gray face but yellow eyes?!
I dont think they get yellow eyes as adults. Seen videos of adults in the ocean and the eyes are still white!

Haha, I wish they did, the lfs i get from doesn't have a definite distributer unless it's imported but these eels are wild caught mostly from local fisherman in a different city, even my high fin was labelled as a peppered moray (gymnothorax pictus) though it looks none like it Lol, though I am honestly glad for that or else I would've most likely paid more if it was labelled as a high fin, and the dark moray which I believe is a yellow edged was labelled as (stripped moray) though there's literally no stripes haha

Yeah, the yellow eyes means it's either an entirely different species or - much, much less likely but still possible - a crossbreed.

Hmm, yeah some specimens don't show much of yellow margin except by the tail, so I just assumed it wasn't visible in the pics, but looking at the video again, I don't see it there even by the tip of the tail. So, yeah, unless it's a specimen with aberrant coloration, this likely isn't a Yellow-edged either.

I'll keep looking and see if I can find a better match - I'll post back here with it if I can.

I really appreciate the time taken, i don't know if this is much helpful but it is indeed from the Indian ocean

So, I still need to finish looking through the other Gymnothorax species (I put it off because it's the largest genus), but if it has pebble teeth instead of fang teeth, possibly Echidna delicatula?

Also, how long is the eel?

It does have the shorter jaw and more muscled jaws you’d expect in an Echidna eel
