Watched them and they are very effective at getting inside the auger and pulling out Reef Jerky.

Yes, obvious answer is (kill the ants). However, there is a reason why the University of California Irvine's mascot is an ANTEATER.

Hmm, I wonder if I can make the mount sit in a petri dish filled with water/soap...

If you have ants wandering around your house you probably need a pest control company
Office. And I have no authority to contract out pest control. I laid down some Taro traps for the ants to roll around and laugh in.

Solution:

pipette tip lid

Too tall. Touching the plank body, so direct highway for ants.

Coral frag tiles to the rescue!

Plank is now centered on a island of soapy water. Also ran the electric cord line through the water so there's no cable bridge for the ants. What could go wrong!?

Ants can be a pain in some areas. (especially the backside ;) ) They show up in my office from time to time, but I've never had them go at anything in the tank.

Some sort of glue trap might be easier than a soapy water moat.

Oops, you posted when I did!

Ants are pretty happy to sacrifice themselves to make an ant corpse bridge. I learned this using diatomaceous earth as a barrier for ants along my flower beds once upon a time when I couldn't use any chemicals. They died sure enough, but they made an ant trail of corpses through the diatomaceous earth that eventually became their super highway. Crazy!

Try wrapping duct tape around the area backwards. They'll get stuck to it. Also on bottom when they are preparing for their journey, place borax and even comet cleanser in area - They hate this stuff

Good eye. I also find cleaning the area with isopropyl alcohol works for a couple of days. I think it disrupts their pheromone trails.

Hi from the other side of our anthill, LOL. Those Terra traps do nothing: I solved our problem at home with a caulk gun: every time they showed up, I followed the trail to the wall and sealed off where they were coming in from. It took time to close off every last access point but we haven’t had any in the three years since!
