i have a strange question/ theory..
my clownfish has been with his nem for a few months and it never moved. i recently got a new anemone and the clown immediately moved in and forgot about his old nem. now the old one moved to the bottom of the tank near the sand, and is looking very sad.

has anyone seen this behavior before or is it unrelated?

Highly recommend a Psychiatrist.
Pics of the nem?
My wife and I have needed a psychiatrist for years but every time we go we just make up stories to hide the embarrassing truth.

I don’t think it’s looking like this because your clown abandoned it. Nems don’t mix well, what are the two morphs you have in the tank?

It's like when the maid moves out and no one is there to cook and clean for you. It's depressing and possibly life threatening.
And trying to train a new one...good lord.

About the anemone, make sure you're running carbon (they do allelopathy each other IME) and there's research showing that anemones absorb the ammonia from fish through skin to tentacle contact. Maybe the anemone needs to be fed more now that the clowns have moved out. Worth a shot! Personally, I'm surprised how much mine need to be fed. They're all large now (30-50cm, mags, gigs, and haddonis) but even after A few days of not eating they look less happy and a few more days they start to shrink. Now they eat 3-6 frozen fish per week each (and I have a dozen!)
