I recently had a velvet outbreak as some of you know. I started treating with CP that I had gotten from eBay because I was waiting on copper to arrive. This Sunday I did a big water change and added Cuprion per reccomended dose. Yesterday I noticed my yellow tang was hiding in the pvc pipe all day which is completely out of character. This morning before I went to work the tang was swimming in circles. Now it is somewhat sideways. I’m getting ready to put the tang in a smaller 10 gallon qt tank for now to get it out of the copper. I added carbon to the 55gallon qt Incase the copper level is to high. It’s hard to tell between 0.2 and 0.5. Therapeutic level is 0.2. Is there an alternative to the copper Incase the tang is copper sensitive? The only CP I can get is the eBay CP. the fish seemed to do well in it and survived despite the velvet outbreak in it for over a week. Should I just go back to using the CP? Any help would be appreciated.

Big G has been a tremendous help to me so far! I hope he or someone has an idea. I’m thinking the CP may be working since I haven’t had anymore fatalities since the fish were introduced to it. I’m thinking about removing the copper from the 55 gal qt and going back to the CP for a month and see how they respond. The ywg seems to be breathing more rapidly as well and is always in hiding. Honestly I’m not sure if this is a problem since it has always been a reclusive fish. The only fish that seems to be inaffected as far as I can tell is the purple pseudochromis. But I don’t want to put all three in a 10gallon qt as I’m afraid it would be to much of a load. This weekend I can do a massive water change on the 55 gal qt and add CP. right now I’m thinking that is my best bet since they seemed to do well in it. Try that for a month, then observe for a few weeks.
Also, would it be safe to add the ywg and pseudochromis in the 10 gallon with the tang for just a few days until I can remove the copper and try the CP again?

For treating velvet, your only two options are copper or CP.

However, not all copper is created equal: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/copper-treatment.193343/

Some fish tolerate chelated copper (e.g. Coppersafe, Copper Power) better than the ionic copper the OP is using.
Thanks for the response! I now have coppersafe and the API test kit for it, plus furan-2. I’m trying to make sure that I’m prepared from here on out so that I don’t have to put any more fish through this.
Do you think I should use the CP since they didn’t show symptoms during that treatment or should I pull all the cuprion out and start using coppersafe?

If memory serves, your CP came from eBay correct? If so, there’s no telling how pure it is so I would switch over to Coppersafe.
