Hello,

I think I have an algae problem or some sort of problem but not sure what it is. I get these thread like algae/structures(?) over my corals, it also appears on the sand. I have just done a water change today and syphoned the sand and corals where the strands have appeared. However, new strands have already appeared on my xenia less than three hours, it's really annoying. Please see photos attached (taken in white light).

My parameters before the water change were:

SG: 1.026
Temp: 25
pH: 8.2
Alkalinity: 7
Phosphate: 0.2
Calcium: 450
Magnesium: 1400
Nitrates: 30/40 - on the high side but should be lower after water change.

I've tried Chemiclean - no change. I've tried Reef Flux - no change

Please can anyone help?

Many thanks, Steve

I don't see algae threads on the coral. It looks like the rocks are progressing to an algae green colour, very normal in a new tank that started with dry rocks.

I don't know what kind of flow you have, but make sure there is enough flow in the tank to help clean the corals of algae and detritus

Thanks for replying.

If you open the photo, eg, expand it, you can see filaments on the xenia?

It's not a new tank, it's nearly two years old?

I have a gyre at one end. Maybe I should turn the flow up, or put in a powerhead at the other end?
