How do I turn off notifications for these types of messages? I'm not following, watching or anything with this thread. Sorry don't mean to sound rude, just curious why I keep getting notifications for threads I haven't touched.

All my settings are set to off- sorry to interrupt the discussion.

Hi! I moved your question to its own thread so that we could better discuss it. We send out 1 daily alert to a thread that we're hoping will be of interest to the community. As of now, my suggestion is that if it doesn't interest you, just scroll past it, but we are in discussion about possible other solutions for those who just don't ever want these types of alerts. We try to be sure we don't do more than 1 a day so it doesn't get annoying hopefully. Our goal is just to help community members find interesting threads that they might not otherwise see. Additionally, we occasionally alert members to contests or important information about forum updates.

I figured it might be something like that. I appreciate the heads up. It's not annoying or anything, I just knew my settings and when it popped up I got curious.

Thx again

For sure! Sorry for the confusion. Your settings are all good. And we promise to try and not overdo it with the alerts. We really just want to promote hobby enjoyment within the community. :)

Funny thing is.. I just got my first mushroom in probably 3 years a week ago. I had the same feeding conversation with my wife this morning when she asked about it.

And then you pop up with your R2R targeted post :p

I'm watching u ;)

You can't unwatch what you never clicked watch to begin with.
I’m pretty sure if you reply to a thread it automatically puts it on your watch list refresh the page and unwatch after your reply

Not if you turned that off or if I never replied to it lol. We got it sorted it's a new feature they're testing.

I'm in the 'it's annoying, but whatever' camp, for the most part anyway.
If there was a way to shut it off, I would (and I already checked a few times). I know it won't bug most people as much as me, but I get annoyed easily when I try to get all my settings just how I want them but someone or something overrides them.
In the grand scheme of things, a maximum of one unwanted notification per day is really not a big deal.
Now, if you wanted to fix something that really bugs me, get rid of the light bulb/'change style' button that's right next to the bell. I can't tell you how often I hit that one by accident and end up blinding myself when it switches back to light mode.

OP isn't asking how to stop notifications on a thread they're watching, they're asking how to stop notifications on a thread they're not watching and have never even clicked on before. For example, I just got a notification for this thread, never heard of it before then. Yesterday I got a notification for this one. Sometimes it's for polls or TOTW threads.
I’m pretty sure if you reply to a thread it automatically puts it on you me watch list refresh the page and unwatch after your reply
You're not understanding. These are notifications for threads the OP has never watched, never replied to, never opened and likely didn't even know existed. It's like telling someone they can stop all the spam calls to their phone by clicking the 'opt out' button whenever they give their phone number to a website.

Having said all that. If I had notifications set to push to my phone or email me, I'd be considerably angrier about it.

It's ok. We truly appreciate the feedback. We're actually working on a way for people to opt out if they don't want these alerts. We feel like most people don't mind them, but hey, we're all for a customizable experience that gives users options to enjoy the site better. :)

Hi @joshwaggs. I moved your post to this thread because we already have a conversation going on this issue in here.

We're working on a solution for you guys who would like to opt out. I hope to have more info on that soon, and I'll post that in here for all of you. For now, we ask that you bear with us and just scroll past them if you're not interested in the topic.

Just an update. At least for me, this has gone from 'annoying, but whatever' to 'really kind of obnoxious'.

I'd really apprciate a way to turn it off.
I do have a suggestion though. How about instead of sending out a global notification to everyone, just pin that thread to the top of all the forums for a day?

Granted, I use the What's New (New Posts on vB) button so I don't see stickies at the top, but I'd still catch it as people post to it and it jumps to the top of that list. For people that browse by forum, making it a sticky at the top of each forum should attract attention, but OTOH, you'd have to differentiate it from all the other stickies at the top of each forum that most people ignore anyway.

Maybe not a perfect solution, but in any case, an opt-out method would be great.

UPDATE!! If you do not want to receive the content alerts/PMs, you can opt out by joining the "Opt Out of Content Alerts and PMs" user group (CLICK HERE to see the joinable user groups).

I do need to warn you guys that due to a glitch, joining a user group may cause you to lose your Build Thread Contributor Badge, but it's easy to add it back. You can find the instructions for adding your Build Thread Contributor Badge HERE.

Hope that's helpful, and be sure to reach out if you run into any issues or questions.
