I just found out I've been running my AIO reef tank wrong. The water level in the back chambers is relatively all the same as the display. This Is a full reef tank. It's probably the reason why I constantly have a protein layer on the water. Anyway how should I solve this problem?

Remove some water from the tank, the water should cascade into the surface skimmer/media chamber then cascade again into the return chamber.
If the water level becomes too low in the display once you achieve proper rear chamber water level, you need to use a cover over the bottom of the weir to raise it.

What brand and model tank?

maybe I could try to mess with the cover, I don't have one on it now. maybe that will help instead of removing water. I'll play around with it when I get home to see.

could not find the weir control thing pictured here in the stuff that came with the tank. I did try and mess with the pump but all it does it suck air if I turn it to much. And my tank is cloudy now. I'll leave it alone since my reef is/was happy with it being this way. At any rate I'll contact Fijicube and see if I can get a replacement part for this.

Yea my experience with fiji cube isnt a positive one. I bought a sump from them and the compartment lids were too big on top of them forgetting to include a refugium weir. Replacement acrylic lids were all scuffed up too but decided to live with it.
Went to leak check it after receiving the missing parts and it had a seam leak at the bottom too.

They replaced it but it was a PITA dealing with them over multiple issues with one sump.

I guess I haven't had any problems with the tank besides this. I'll say idk how hard it will be to get this part. I may just give up and live with it because My tank has done fine for awhile now anyway Got corals and anemones doing great.

Assure the return pump is pumping water as fast as its coming in. Often the included pumps are not as strong as needed, but scoop out a few cups of water at a time and see if it pours through the opening and delivered by the pump as it should

okay so I I changed around the return pump and it either takes put to much water and runs dry and violent or I'm guessing it isn't taking in enough water. I even tried it at the setting above what I have it on to no avail

Be careful when messing around with these AIOs when doing all this. When that water level is changing around and going up and down and pump chamber dry and all that Mumbo jumbo. Be very aware of what water you’re filling back to your evaporation reference line (salt or fresh). You can cause huge salinity swings. Been there done that and got the TShirt. If you take out too much and add fresh back it’ll drop. Then you gotta raise it back up and risk going too high. In retrospect I can’t even believe I did that and didn’t think. Because I know better. But when you got a 5 alarm emergency going on in your tank and trying to mess with those chambers and water level. It’s easier than you think to muff up

I tested my water afterwards we remained level! I'll say I did accidently spill water everywhere (it went on my electrics)
