Hi there, we acquired a 125G all in one Acrylic tank. All that is in there is predators but of course the water quality is garbage due to all the bioload. How do I turn this tank into a tank with a sump or do I just add a FX 6 on the tank?

is the tank properly cycled?

And if you indeed want to turn the AIO into a sump I would think to drill holes in the return pump chamber. Add plumbing and bulkheads. others may be able to offer better methods as I have not done that modification

Not sure why this constitutes emergency tag.

FX6 can hurt or help. seems like cannisters may harbor nitrates and will need frequently cleaning

To make its easy, just add the FX6. I would remove all but last sponge and replace with live rock rubble. I'm running 3 FX6 on my 120G mixed reef like that.

Dude this is very simple corals, you don't need any canisters to keep this.... Also your sand is bad - some bad red guys over there. Also the pipes in the background look absolutely awful. There is no point in it. Leave the canisters in the fresh world. They are not needed here. It is ugly and does not bring efficiency. Your ph will be low with a canister.
This types of corals can live just with wavemaker and external skimmer. That's it.

My tank was an AIO when I kept seahorses. It just had an Aquaclear 70. When I wanted to turn it into a sumped tank, I added an Eshopps HOB overflow. That was years ago and it still is what I use.
