I looked up the Brightwell's product, and to me it sounds like good rinsing will do it. The information on the product, of course when used according to directions, states to add more snails for CUC while using the product. So when used properly, not toxic. So any residuals left over after rinsing would not be a concern for me.

Copied from amazon's listing:

"Used as directed, it is safe for marine fishes, hard and soft corals, and other inverts, as well as most macro-algae, however, as all animals are individuals, and water conditions vary in many aquariums, animals should be observed closely during use, for signs of stress (corals closing and not re-opening, erratic behavior etc.). If signs of stress occur, or if macro-algae are affected negatively, reduce or discontinue use as necessary. If symptoms persist, do a partial water change and add carbon."

Thanks everyone for the advice. I gave it a good hose down and good soak in saltwater for a couple of days. Tank is now set up!

I might be to late. But for future reference with jealous gfs.

Having stored my rock dry doesn't get rid of the bio particles and other nasties. Its amazing what survives in the air. You'll see some old "friends" come back eventually.

Just going through a similar thing and need to "clean" 40 lbs of reef rock which ahd critters, string algae, tiny snail eggs , worms and other nasty stuff growing on it.

I decided for the for the following "cleaning" process using bleach which a lot of reefers agree works without destroying the rock and easily eliminate all residue of the chemical used. (Bleach evaporates 100%)

- get a large brute bucket (size which can hold your rock)
- put rock in, fill with water (measure how much you added) covering the rock a couple of inches.
- add a pump, powerhead anything to move the water a little bit
- Add Clorox or any other non perfumed bleach product in a 10:1 ratio. (10 water, 1 bleach)
- Let sit for 7 days

- Empty (in a safe place) , rinse the rock, air dry.

Let it dry completely. The chlorine will evaporate 100 %

Safety:
Never add water to bleach. Always bleach to water.
Wear gloves and glasses
Do not do this in an enclosed room. you need plenty of ventilation

Result:
Fresh Reef Rock
