I currently have a 120g (w/40g sump) stocked with a 6" one spot foxface, a 5" blue tang, two blue streak cleaner wrasse. They have been in the tank since January. I want to add some (3 or 4) disbar or randall anthias, a pearlscale and puntado butterflyfish, and a melanurus wrasse. My question is--Will the tang be problematic since it has been in the tank for so long? Should I move him out until the anthias, and others have settled in ? Is my plan to add anthias, then butterflies, then melanurus correct ? Would a fairy wrasse or two, be compatible in this tank with the melanurus?

Good choice with the Pearscale butterfly fish, I saw one in person and it was stunning. With all these new additions I wouldn’t take the tangs out on account of stress. You should wait until night to add them, put a mirror besides the tank, and feed extra for the next couple of days.

If you are looking for a good wrasse I would recommend the Dusky Marigned Wrasse. They have great personalities. Once they turn male they are beautiful.

Thanks, I don't have the fish yet, and I don't want to overload the system by adding too much at once. My original plan is to add the anthias first.... then in a month, add the butterflies, then a month later add the wrasse (which I like the idea of the Dusky). By spacing out the additions, will that allow the tang to single out and focus on the new fish? I hadn't thought about using the mirror.

Sounds like a good plan! The mirror worked really well with my tank when I added a melanarus wrasse to my tank. It tricked my more aggressive fish like my tangs into fighting the mirror to divert aggression from the wrasse.
