Howdy!
I was wondering about the feasibility of using a Rubbermaid trash can that I use for water changes as a temporary second sump. Currently, I have a 75 gallon reef tank and eventually I would like to move all of that to my 150 that I haven’t set up yet. Long story short, I don’t think it would be a good idea just to move all the water over and replace with brand new saltwater because that would basically be a 50% water change and it would probably throw off the parameters. I was thinking that around a week or so before I want to make the switch, I could make up 25 gallons of water and put a pump at the bottom of the trash can to pump the water into my 75 and start a siphon from my 75 to the trash can. I know it would be difficult to balance the flow rates and I could risk overflowing my tank or the trash can, but if I was able to balance that out, would this be a good idea? I would appreciate any suggestions!
Thank you!
