Acrylic filter sock silencer for stock Red Sea Reefer sumps.

Broadfield that started the reefer show and discuss thread is testing silencer designs for Elite Aquatics but these are for standard socks. What some of us could do here is get a bunch of reefer owners with stock sumps to form a group buy. In this way an acrylic fabricator would be more enticed to make a template for enough interest in this en-devour.

If each of us that's interested in the silencers would post here and say so, and also email their favorite acrylic fabricator as well to tell them of this group buy and to give them the link to this thread.

We would also want to decide if we want silencers to fit in the sock sliders without the sock being there or the silencers to go on top of the Red Sea Socks. I prefer silencer with no sock to go in the slider tray.

I emailed Little Ocean UK about this. They make an acrylic crud catcher cup filter sock replacer. I bought one from them. I asked if they would make some silencers.

Does your tank take the Red Sea Socks? I think they're standard for all Red Sea tanks. Could you get a picture of the holder?

I just put a sock in the holder, I have been running the sump without the two. They're dead silent with the socks in. Without socks it's loud and trickles all over the place. There's no sense in using the silencers with the socks. We'll have them made to work without socks.

That depends on how much flow you run through the sump. Mine were also dead silent, with the socks, until I upped my flow.... then they were noisy.

If I raise the water level in the sump they get silent, but at the recommended level there is a trickle noise. Either way I'm in for 2

Got an email back from Little Ocean. First of all he thinks they won't help with noise. He said he could make them quite easily but export duty would make them more expensive and acrylic is cheaper here. But he wouldn't mind doing them.

You can make your own for significantly cheaper. Just need a drill, saw, and weld-on.
