Hello,

Just purchased a Red Sea 200xl G2 as my first tank.

Currently cycling it. Put Fritz Turbo Start 900 and daily dosing MicroBacter 7 (1 Cap)

I believe I will be doing a mixed reef tank. A few LPS but mostly SPS I think they are called. Torches, Anemones, Hammers. Etc

Fishes - I really want a Dragonet Madarin, 1 or 2 clowns, blue tang or purple tang, Jawfish and some Gobys along with the CUC

Currently running
Reef Octopus Regal 150-INT
AI Prime 16HD
AI Nero 3
Jebao DC Pump with Controller
Aquatic Life RO Buddie 4 Stage RODI

Any tips or tricks are gladly appreciated lol

Great scape. lots of room for corals. And you probably mean LPS that is what torches and hammers are. Honestly I would avoid SPS until you become a pro at LPS/softies and mushrooms and zoas. Much more complicated to grow SPS.

One easy tip i can give you is to absolutely buy an Auto top off system. Will save you so much time having to manually dump in (saltless) water every day and will keep your salinity perfectly stable. Stability can get out of whack a lot faster in smaller tanks.

Couple of notes but Blue and purple tangs are way to big for a 40g. The mandarin you can eventually do but i'd make sure to get a captive bred one trained on frozen foods for best sucess. Also would wait awhile until copepods are stocked up in your tank. You may eventually want to run 2 Prime 16HDs for a better spread but for awhile the one should be adequate.

I already have an RODI system installed, just working out a few kinks with the plumbing. Working on getting a cabinet for the side now to manage all the cables and add the ATO tank in there.

Might just get 1 Blue tang then for the kids, coral wise what I want are Hammers, Frogspawn, Torches which are LPS correct?

I will definitely contact my local supplier and see if he has any captive bred mandarins, almost done with my cycle. few more days left.

Thanks for the advice
