6ft SPS mp40 help!

I have a standard 6ft tank (72x24x24) Trying to figure out locations for my 4 mp40’s. I have attached a pic of the scape for help. Right now I have one on each side going over the scape and 2 on the bottom (1 in the front and 1 in the back) MP40’s across the scape doesn’t seem to be enough flow. Any help is appreciated.

Can you indicate where they are I’m having trouble picturing.

Do you have water in the tank?

What power do you have the mp40’s on and what mode is it?

a single mp40 can easily move water 48”. So one on each side would overlap in the middle.

These are typical setups for tanks similar size

Yes I have water, figured that would be an easier pic to see the scape without.

The 2 mp40’s on the side glass run RC at 95%, the bottoms run a mix mostly at 65%.

Thanks, and yes I agree the empty pic makes things easier

Reef crest isn’t a super strong mode. It varies. I like nutrient transport. It goes through slower periods and a high flow pulse period

Have you programmed the waves with the auto tune mode?

As a test put them in the constant mode and test out the power. Yo should have tons of flow when those are all cranked, to get an idea of capability.

I would also raise the bottom ones. Your flow in the bottom will be towards the pumps, not away. It will create a gyre effect like this. If mounted too low the suction on the bottom is reduced

You think I should leave them where they’re at (moving up the bottoms) or use your 1st suggestion? I like the idea of having them on the back but if you zoom in you can see my overflow that takes up a good amount of that room.

Ok so thinking about this I would suggest
1 on each end. Centered front to back. About 60% up from the sand bed or glass. Whatever the “bottom” is
These two put in constant mode. This is primary flow for the tank. Run them whatever you need. Probably 75-80%. Remember constant is way more powerful than any of the other modes that ramp up and down constantly.

Then one on the each side of the overflow, on the back wall facing forward. These can be in reef crest, nutrient transport, whatever. These ones can vary and will be what disrupts the end units flow. You’ll have random flow all the time because of these two. It will intercept and interact with the flow from the end units. And they will create their own undertow and gyre effect .

I’lf you have reef energy ab+, it’s neon yellow aminos , you can set this all up and pour a capful in various spots and watch where it goes and see how the flow is doing and tweak from there

Even though the end units are on constant this will create a lot of random flow because of the cross paths.

Also the ones on the back wall only have a 24” distance before hitting the front glass. It will hit the front glass and deflect randomly in all directions

I will give that a shot, I appreciate all the feedback! Fair to assume the 60% is just to have flow cross the structure? If so, I’ll just have to bump it up prob closer to 70 to cover so it just doesn’t blast rocks/corals.

Same can happen if you mount too low. Except you’ll pull up sand storms. Deflectors can help here also.

Placement in that 50-75% range tends to prevent both problems but hard to predict. Every tank is different due to rockwork. I’m giving general placement advice but fine tuning may be needed of course. I do think this is a solid plan though

I’ll move them around tomorrow and test it out. Again, truly appreciate the help!

I move mine to the right height for flow and then move forward to blow in front of the corals / rocks instead of hitting them directly
