Hi everybody. First time doing a saltwater setup. I ran into this 55 gallon cylinder tank for next to nothing So I figured I would give it a shot. The dimensions are 20 in wide by 36 in tall. Being it's a 360° tank I made it the focal point of my living room. I'm looking for suggestions on what to put in it. I would like to go bold and colorful however I'm not sure what I can get away with due to its limitations. I know that's a pretty good depth for trying to do corals and what not. So I'm perfectly okay with going artificial however I would like to do living if at all possible from a beginner standpoint. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

55g is a good size tank. I would skip doing fake coral. It can leach harmful chemicals into your tank, and they will eventually get covered with algae. Start with simple corals such as duncans, zoas, candy canes, toadstools, or mushrooms, to name a few. I will link you to this thread; this has a lot of good information on how to start a tank.

Thank you so much for your reply. Are these all corals that would work in the cylinder setup? I currently have live sand and live rock. My concerns are the abnormal dimensions of the tank. I can't seem to find too much information on them. I'm assuming the designs are not ideal but definitely unique and the price was right.
