Here is the beginning of my 40Gal AIO journey. first pic is scape only and the second is just after adding water. The current plan is to create a Euphyllia with that island rock maybe Zoas. stocking list idea currently is:
Clownfish Pair
Six line or Flasher Wrasse
Diamond Goby pistol pair.

let me know if you have any recommendations/questions about my stocking list or the setup as a whole. Also, any tips are much welcomed lol as this is my first ever reef build! :D

Technically Second addition of coral. My first addition was some Hammers that didn’t make it unfortunately. They died due to heat from shipping (I live in Texas) paired with my alkalinity being way too low.

Been awhile since an update. Only survivors is the euphyllia. That being the two hammers and the torch. The torch and the purple hammer started waging war on each other so I had to move the torch to the location shown in the photos. Looks to be like I have some corraline algae starting to spread on the back of the tank which is a cool change.

Can anyone possibly ID this torch for me also? Got it at aquashella Dallas and forgot to ask lol. TIA

more updates to come as these guys grow and I maybe add a few more.

Quick little update.

Decided to add some Acans on the sand bed and some zoas as filler. Fish still doing awesome, pistol shrimp is definitely a gray thief though .

Quick Update:

First off thank you everyone who has been interested and potentially following this crudely documented build lol.

Tank has been up and running for a year this month. majority of my Euphyllia has start to start splitting or show signs of s potential split. I separated some exosphere zoas from a frag of daisy cutters which left the daisy cutters rather upset (couple months ago) they are still trying to settle back in it would seem.

I ended up buying an Apex and Trident to help tackle parameter swings since I am a very lazy tester.

Big news though! I recently purchased a used 180gal Planet Aquarium. Sooooo here before long all of the inhabitants of the 40 will be transferred to the 180. Be on the lookout for another Build thread that I hopefully update more regularly on. I will be posting stuff following a whole plumbing redo (closed loop plumbing and sump filtration plumbing). I will also post the aquascape....basically I am going to do my best at documenting everything including issues that arise and how i end up solving them. May do some YouTube stuff following it as well if time permits.

Hope to see y'all on the new build thread!!

Congrats on making it a year with your tank, and congrats with the new 180!!! Can't wait to see what everything is going to look like in that 180!!

Still up and running so still gonna update

the apex and trident was legit the best thing to happen to this tank by far. Ph is a bit lower going between 7.8-7.9 currently. Going to attach a CO2 reactor once I get off my butt to get to the lfs and lowes for media and tubing. All in all coral is doing good minus the daisy cutters who never quite bounced back from separating the exosphere from them and a micro musa my pistol shrimp (zero) buried.

The purple hammer has almost finished splitting to 4 heads from the original one and showing off some goldish tips through the orange lense. Can sort of see the goldish tips in person. The purple tip ‘hammer’ is almost finished splitting into two head. My torch is developing a second mouth finally and starting to produce some gold streaks.

also added a baby blue tang in prep for the 180 which is doing phenomenal and eating like a pig :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I got the CO2 scrubber hooked up and attached. My PH had started hovering between 7.67-7.85 more or less. I made a bone head move also . I failed to notice my trident was out of the Alk reagent and was dosing sodium carbonate to maintain a higher ph while waiting on the media to be delivered. My alk ended up around 12dkh, coral seem to be handling it well, I switch my Kalk ATO mixture to just RO to help it drop a little. Need to get some more salt and maybe water change it out, but I'd prefer a more gradual drop.

As for the scrubber I haven't noticed much of a change yet. I will probably add a few ml of water when I get home to see if that helps. I might also bore out the holes of the skimmer lid to be able to slip RO tubing in there and create a manifold to run to the inlet of the scrubber. I did notice an increase in ph with opening my windows, so I am confident it is a CO2 issue.

Don't mind the filthy skimmer lid :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Shots from the tank today. Everything is doing great. Posted a screenshot from apex with todays readings

C02 scrubber seems to be helping a bit. Ph falls at night are noticeably slower and the increase during the day is a tad bit quicker (monitoring via apex and the go data graph).
