I bought an Aqueon 40 gallon breeder and a Fuji AIO to turn it into a peninsular tank.

Comments: The FUJI AIO is not the greatest. Unfortunately I could not get Tenncor to respond to my emails and purchases were disabled on their website. So it was Fuji or make my own. The biggest issue is the gaps on either side. I ended up filling it in and used an entire tube of black silicon. Although it is not noticeable to anyone but me it is not as professional as I would have liked.

Stand Construction:
I decided to build an extruded aluminum stand.

I used 3030 aluminum from 8020 and fasteners from Zytech. I used 8020 because you can buy pieces that have flat sides.. So the top of most sides showing are flat. The front has the channel so I can add doors.

Over all I am happy with the cuts from 8020. I designed it so the weight at the corners are transferred directly to the ground. I had originally planned on putting the bottom base up about 10 inches and have the 6 legs contact the ground directly. I bought 6 rubber feet vice 6 so it was wait or improvise. When I add the doors I will go back in and add a shelf.

Aquascaping: I purchased a 40 lb box of Reef Rock from Marco. I use my circular saw with a stone/masonry blade to score around one of the bigger pieces. Doing that I was able to use a hammer and chisel to make a clean break. It would have been nice having a bandsaw but this worked pretty well. This gave me flat pieces for the base. I ended up having a bit left over. The 40 gallon is kind of shallow so figured less is more.

Fill and Finish:
Our well water is pretty high TDS. Fortunately is it mainly due to the presence of Na and HCO3. The RO gets the TDS down to 40 but for initial fill I used rain water (TDS 1). Once I get livestock in there I plan on using the RO unit. I have a detailed water analysis so the TDS is not really something to be concerned with.

Fluvell 150 w heater (adding second one)

I have heard the same about the fiji cube AIO inserts. but looks like you did the best you could.

me too! I have a soft spot for 40br tanks and builds.

love the Tslot I have been thinking of a stand with the stuff for about 7 years now...

I was wondering why you set it up that way, now it makes since.
I am a huge peninsula fan!

Yeah when we built the house we went ahead and closed in the porch to make it an office and for some reason left the windows in. So it looks unusual but has some benefits.

T slot can definately be pricey. I am getting a quote on doors right now. I priced them out myself to make and they are $$

I bet that is the only down fall of Tslot stands.
i have seen a few cleaver ideas to skin them over the years.
I have an idea if/when I build one for a nano tank.

I've seen a lot of bad stuff about Fijicube, and that's a shame. I bought a 20-gallon AIO from them probably 5 or 6 years ago and loved it. It was a beautiful tank. I had some questions, and they responded pretty quickly. Anyway...things change, and its sad to see. The tank is looking great, 40 breeders are such a great size. 80/20 is great stuff.

I knew going in it was going to be an issue. If I had not set it up as a peninsula it would have worked great.

Your setup looks great! Just curious, do you plan to add extra filtration? Also what corals/fish have you got eyes on?

I am going to add more flow for sure. Maybe a wave maker to mount on one of the ends. I may or may not add a skimmer. As far is filtration I just have some polyfilter to collect detritus in the overflow.

My plan is to run only soft corals and a few LPS.

My stocking plan is to add two clowns after cycle followed by a few of the packages from Indo Pacific sea farms. The idea is to build the diversity in my tank. Maybe in 6 to 8 months add a few hardy corals. That is just going to depend on how the tank matures. Patience is the key!
