Sorry for the lack of updates guys. A lot has changed in this tank. Below is everything that has happened recently.

I had to get rid of the puffer because he started nipping every new coral I added.

I added 3 blue/green chromis. One disappeared and the other two are doing good. I also got a yellow head jawfish and he is doing great.

I have needed to start dosing now and I’m going to use the tropic Marin all for reef. I’m also getting a Kamoer x1 dosing pump

I have not had a single death and the corals are doing great. There is also lots of coraline coming along.

All of the new corals added:
-purple alvepora
-jf rainbow incinerator zoa
-frogspawn
-purple and green Tonga shrooms
-red monti cap
-green star polyp
-kyroglyph zoas(might not be the exact name)
-red and blue acan
-blasto merrletti
-wwc cherry Garcia chalice
-Tyree long polyp toadstool
Thx guys. Will try to do more frequent updates in the future

update April 27

well I said I was gonna post more frequent but with school it has been hard. Anyway, a few changes have happened. I have also been pretty lucky with the algae and it has caused very little problems.

number one is that all of my chromis slowly died one by one. All healthy until one day they just stopped swimming and died later that day.

next, I changed the rock scape on the left. It had bothered me from the start and I knew it was gonna cause sps shading problems. I decided to make it less sloped and flatten it out. I’m very happy with it now

I have slowly been adding sps. I have a green slimer, red monti cap, forest fire digi, German blue digi, and montipora spongeoid. They are all doing great

I also got a pretty good doser for the money. It is a kamoer x1 single head doser and is only $60. I am dosing tropic carbo calcium and everything seems to be doing well

My plan is to maybe try chromis again or some other shoaling fish. I also plan to have most of the upper half of the tank be sps dominate and replace some of the lower end sps with higher end. Lastly, I’m trying to figure out what I want to do with the middle of the rock scape so if u have any ideas let me know

Ok guys today is the day that I’m gonna try to revive this thread lol.
Let’s start with the changes I have made
-Redesign of the scape:I absolutely love this new scape I feel like I have way more room to allow corals to grow out and it just looks all already better and less man made compared to the previous
-Massive stocking change: this was not really a intentional change on my part. A few months ago I had about a week long power outage due to a ice storm and was only able to run a battery operated air pump during that time. The tank dropped to about 60 degrees and I lost my chromis’, cardinals, yellow goby, mystery wrasse, and jawfish along with quite a few corals.
-Removal of all filtration equipment: this may or may not be a good idea but I have taken my protein skimmer and reactor off my tank because my nutrients ended up getting so low. I started to get dinos which I was able to fight off by raising nutrients and now I’m just dealing with slight cyano but I seem to be winning the battle by continuing to let nutrients rise through only biological filtration
-Basically the only new addition besides coral is the addition of my porcupine puffer named spike. I’m only gonna have this tank running for about a little less than a year now so I figured by the time he outgrows the tank I will be needing to tear it down anyways. He is awesome and hasn’t bothered any of my cuc except for one unlucky emerald crab. He doesn’t touch the coral either
-Lastly I added a third ai prime hd that was left from when I tore down my nano

Updated fish stock:
-2 clowns
-1 porcupine puffer
-1 coral beauty angel
-1 purple dottyback
-1 Caribbean hawkfish
overall I’m pretty happy now with what the tank is starting to become and I’m hoping this summer I can really dial things in and get some good growth starting

if anyone has some ideas on any fish I should add I would love to hear it

alright for anyone that may be viewing this thread, this will be the last post. I actually tore the tank down a whole year ago due to going off to college and just now getting to this post lol. Loved this tank, was incredibly simple. In the end I was only running a hob skimmer, 3 ai primes, a heater, and 2 jabao wave makers. 20% water changes were done every other week. This thing basically ran itself and I’m not sure how it ran so well being how minimal the equipment was but certainly not complaint.
Final stocking list to the best of my memory:
-Porcupine puffer
-coral beauty
-snowflake eel
-Caribbean hawkfish
Pretty sure my eel ate my clownfish and dottyback.
These were the pics I took right before tearing it down.

Gonna be starting a new build thread with my fluval evo 13.5 gallon reef that I will be bringing with me to school

Sorry that you had to tear it down! Do you plan on starting it back up again?
