Putting together an a smaller tank in my home office. Building my basement bar, so going to sell my 120 soon. I want to build the bar first and not have to build around the larger tank. So, I need to have at least one tank around lol.

I was going to build the stand with all the lumber myself, but after pricing the lumber wow! My wife suggested getting a kitchen cabinet and reinforcing it, genius!

So, got the stand and an overhead cabinet. I added some 3x3 oak pillars to hold the canopy. I'm going to put together a controller panel, like on my other tank. I was going to put heavy duty drawer slides to allow the canopy top to slide up and down. But they kept locking up. I returned a pair to Amazon and then they sent me a replacement set and they did it again. So the canopy will be fixed in placed.

I reinforced the tank enough to support the 40 gallon if I choose to upgrade at some point. The canopy will sit 8 inches above the tank.

- lighting will be, 250w halide and two 160we kessils for supplemental lighting.

- innovative marine 9w UV.
- Aqua Maxx 3 Bullet HOB skimmer.
- on order a HOB fuge.

I got the tank in and mixing salt water. Got my controllers in on my hidden panel, that's visible after you remove the drawer face.

Got a good bit of my 120's corals moved. I may need to sell my cap lol. It takes up half the tank. Everything was still ticked lol. I couldn't catch 2 other fish before the lights went out, something to do tomorrow.

Might have to sell you the whole colony lol. I need to clear up some real estate
I'd have a single species tank. I actually want one. But not for a monti cap. Maybe I should skip the cap all together.

Ok, a little update. I finally got some time to install the light. I went with the Orphek Icon compact. I also got my dosing setup started and put in place.i used the leftover drawer parts. But I couldn't be normal my wife says. So, I went all Dr Frankenstein. I left the ability to add another reef dose two for a food source, and Nitrate and Phosphate.

Love the dosing setup you did!

greetings from Smyrna! My in laws live in canton though.

Are you happy with the HOB fuge and skimmer? I have the same tank and really considered doing both but ultimately scrapped the fuge idea and went the a smaller internal skimmer.
Hello fellow GA local! I didn't pull the trigger yet on the fuge. But I love the Aquamaxx skimmer. I've always been a believer to oversize your skimmer. Right now where my Boi lead is, I think adding fuge will pull out all the nutrients.

I originally kept chaeto in one of the compartments with a light on the back. I ran it as few as 6hours a day without a skimmer and couldn’t keep any nutrients in the tank nor could I get the PH up. So I swapped to the aqua max nano, ran it through a co2 scrubber and got my ph up. Nutrients are still somewhat low and I have terrible micro bubbles issues though. That’s why I asked about the HOB version. For now I just run the skimmer during non viewing hours so the micro bubbles don’t bother me and lets some nutrients exist.

Def following along your journey. Some great ideas in here!

I just set up my CO2 scrubber, but I retro fitted it to recirculate so the media will last longer. I have not micro bubble issues.
