I don't think this is against the rules...but this is NOT my tank. I just saw it on CL and figured somebody may be interested. If this is against any rule, hopefully somebody will just delete it.

225 Gallon Aquarium / Fish Tank with Stand and Canopy

Only odd thing I noticed is that the person seems to think "The silicone has been removed so that the tank can be resealed after moving, as is standard for large tanks since the glass panes can shift when being moved, compromising the seal."

Personally, I feel that the silicone is what holds the glass together and I'd be uncomfortable moving it without ALL the silicone in it. Perhaps that's why they said something about the buyer taking responsibility BEFORE moving it. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here....but this person could get their butt sued to no end of somebody lifted the tank and it came apart on them while moving it. :squigglemouth:

Either way, it wouldn't stop me from buying... but I would INSIST that I put silicone in it and let it cure before moving it. It looks pretty nice.

It still has the silicone between the pieces of glass -- just the beads around the inside would have been removed. That silicone is strong enough to hold it together. The other is for reenforcement of the glass when it is under the pressure of 2400 pounds of rock and sand and water. I would have left the stuff in, though, and let the guy on the other end strip it out and put it back in again. Perhaps he had a leak and redirected his interests to another tank mid-project.

Not sure what the rules are here such links/postings. If this was RC you'd get dinged for posting somebody else's sale. And have a rude statement about how local club interests don't mean stuff compared to the overall interests of RC pleasing their sponsors (indirectly, of course). I've been smacked down for that before.

That was my tank and it has been sold.

The silicone is what holds the glass together. There's still 1/2" of silicone contact between the panes, plenty strong to move. The issue with big glass tanks is 100 pound pieces of glass moving slightly during shipping, thus breaking the seal in a small spot, not the panes falling out.

Almost. I bought it holding water, but the silicone work was really sloppy. I removed the extra silicone, but not the fillets between the glass, then we (i.e., my wife) decided that we should have a smaller tank. I left it to the new owner to reseal once it is in its permanent spot. It's already been moved once in its present state. I gave the new owner the RTF sealant and a silicone tool to get nice clean edges. He got a sweet deal.

Anybody got a 48" 120g for sale?

It did look nice, and a good deal.

I wouldn't have said anything if I knew it was another member's tank. Hope I didn't cause any problems with the sale.

I just would have been too nervous moving it without the full amount of silicone in it.

Why did you remove the fillets?

Sorry, I misspoke above. I did remove the fillets, but not the part between the glass. The reason why I said above; the previous owner had done the same thing I was doing, but his craftsmanship left much to be desired... huge uneven fillets. They need to be 1/2" on either side, straight, and slightly tapered out in thickness.
