I know this would be my second 225 g aquarium purchase. I had started the other build but it’s been a stand still. (Time)(a lot is need for the tank)

This is a shorter but wider and taller tank then my other one.

I will be getting this done a lot quicker as it’s easier to turn around. It just needs a new polish and cosmetics on the stand.

Pics as it sits in the sellers house. We pick it up today for a decent 500 bucks. I’ll post later what it comes with. This will be replacing my 120.

Set up wise I’ll stick with the same sump, I might need to upgrade the skimmer and the UV sterilizer. I’m also thinking of replacing the return pump. This will be just a FOWLER. I will re use all live rock and be adding more new dead rock. I will also be reusing as much of the water, and sand from the previous tank. I plan on touching up the stand and tank it’s self.

Update step 1 tank condition review

A 225g 48x36x30(LxWxH)

Minor scratches on the inside of the tank. Nothing too deep. Just a couple of hrs of Novus scratch removal.

Everything piping wise was glued tight. So I will be replacing all bulk heads.

Step 2 tank stand condition review
The stand was sturdy on the out side, it looked like it just needed some TLC. Once we got it home we got into it a bit deeper.

Mold was found on the bottom of the floor. It covered 65% of the bottom and we removed it immediately due to the mold like smell. Water damage took the entire bottom portion and we have decided to replace 75% of the entire stand.

The extras it came with
Fluval FX6
Tank canopy to match stand
Lids for the tank that were original.

So, we have decided a few things, plumbing is on order from bulk reef supply.

We will be changing out the protein skimmer to accommodate the tank size, although my bio load would be on the light side, not that many fish currently but room to grow for said fish.

Our UV sterilizer will get an upgrade as will our return pump.

I’m thinking a COR20 for the pump and our sterilizer pump will be the old return pump.

I will he sanding the stand tomorrow and we should be getting the floor put back on. All the tank supplies comes in Tuesday and Wednesday.

I have a question, should I wash out the inside of the tank after buffing or is it safe to let air dry then add salt water to start the cycle presses. Any inputs?

I have always washed and santaized tanks before adding any water to start a cycle. I don’t think this is any different but since I’ve used novus on it I don’t want to ruin or damage the tank.
