Hi all,

I used to be an active member of the club before our son was born, but my tank went into decline due to lack of free time, and I eventually took it down. It's been in storage in our garage for a year or two, and now I need to clear out some room so I'd like to sell it.

The tank itself is an acrylic Tenecor "reef ready" 150 gallon, dimensions are 60"x24"x24". The back piece is blue acrylic. It has a built-in central overflow box with factory-drilled holes for two drain lines and two return lines. The piece of acrylic on the top of the tank has one crack in it running from a heater hole to the main opening which developed around a year after I bought the tank. I consulted with the Tenecor engineers about this crack and they assured me it would not hurt the structural integrity of the tank, and in fact I did continue to run the tank for another 10 years or so without any issues. You can't see the crack with the canopy in place anyway. There are a few minor scratches on the walls of the tank, but nothing that couldn't be buffed out. I have an acrylic scratch repair kit I'll throw in with the sale of the buyer wants it.

To go with the tank, I also have a canopy and a stand. The stand is actually brand-new, custom made by the guy who makes stands for the Aquarium fish store. I bought it when I thought I would be setting the tank up again and then never ended up using it - it's still wrapped in the clear plastic it shipped in. Both stand and canopy are stained in Minwax's "English Chestnut" stain.

I'd be willing to let the tank, stand, and canopy go for $250 to a good home where someone could get some use out of it.

If interested, drop me an email at jemoersch 'at' gmail.com or send me a PM here.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

Good to hear from you. I asked Sarah a few months ago about the hobby and she said you were out. If I wasn't in the middle of a kitchen renovation and a cabinet dispute I might take you up on it but financially I'm not sure where my discretionary income is going for a month or two until this gets resolved.

Hey Dave! Great to hear from you too. Last I remembered you had exited the hobby - I guess that didn't last?

I wish I could get back in, but Sarah hated it when I traveled for work and something would happen to the system. All the breakdowns seemed to happen when I was several time zones away. Now that I've had my Mini for 13 years, I'm thinking about getting a new car, but the only way Sarah will go for that is if the tank exits the garage... Anyway, I'll still have all the support equipment and the saltwater plumbing going to the fish room in the basement, so maybe someday I'll start back up. I'd go for a bigger tank than the 150 next time anyway.

good to hear from you Jeff! I was wondering if you had gotten out of the hobby. That is a great deal on your tank! I wish I had the room for it. btw, I still have a piece of your hulk acro you sold me several years ago. In fact, I have too much, it grows like crazy. It's good to hear your hanging onto your "base" equipment so you can get back in the hobby some day. Good luck to you!

Hey Dave! Glad to see you're still in the hobby, and amazed to hear you still have a descendent from my tank going strong. That kind of story really gives credence to the idea that reefers are actually good for the world's reefs because we can keep the genetic lines going for sustained periods.

I kind of had to get out of the hobby for now. Shortly after our son was born (7.5 years ago now, wow) there was a glitch with the system while I was in Africa doing field work. Trying to talk Sarah through the trouble-shooting over a bad Skype connection from Tunisia was not a fun experience for either of us. I managed to keep things going for a few years after that, but it never really fully recovered - tank became a cyano-ridden eye sore in our living room and I just didn't have the time to get it back to being presentable. I took down the tank maybe a year and a half ago but left the refugium, frag tank, and sump going in the basement fish room as a way of keeping my last first (which was also our first first - the Majestic Foxface we had since 2005) alive. But he committed hari-kari by jumping around six months ago... Sad.

I definitely want to get back into it - maybe when our son is a little older and he can fully participate with me and take care of it when I travel instead of Sarah. Nice to think some of the old stalwarts like you guys might still be in it when I come back!
