I am currently running a 10g reef nano with a 10g sump. Total volume is around 16.5 gallons maybe a little more due to a 65g skimmer I used from a previous tank I had. I have never gone smaller to bigger, just bigger to smaller. I had to go smaller due to a move. But now that I am settled. I want to go back.to my larger tank. I want to use my current water to help the larger tank cycle. Any thoughts on this. I do not want two tanks running at same time.

I always use water from my existing DT to start up QTs as needed. Nothing better than good cycled water to start a new tank. As long as you are confident that the water is disease and parasite free of anything you don't want in the bigger DT: snails, bristleworms, etc. that can tag along in egg form to the new tank.
