Hi guys,
I'm starting a new reef tank and also wanted to start a thread at the same time in order to document the whole process. So here goes.
I currently have a Red Sea Max C250 (current picture attached) it is 3 1/2 years old and it was also my first tank. It has served me well as a first tank...
Ive been working hard spending hours on this site, I love getting feedback and suggestions on my build. My build thread is in the cube section but I figured maybe I can reach more eyes posting in general forum! Would love for people to check it out and let me know what they...
Some background: I grew up working with my dad with freshwater tanks, and had wanted a saltwater tank for a long time. About a year ago, I finally bit the bullet and invested in a basic 10 gallon set up. Just some live rock, a hang on back filter, and a power head. I was immediately hooked. I...
I like that nifty little title so I reckon I better start an actual build thread.
I bought several tanks, a 10g, 20g, 20g IM Nuvo, a 29g and a 75g with stand.
The 20g Nuvo will be my QT, the 10g the ATO for that tank.
The 75g is becoming my reef tank. It was used and came with a shoddy...
My system has been running for approx 5 years time however I have went through swings of being really into the tank and neglecting it.
This is the earliest image i have Dec 2012
Photo from Feb 2013

Large photo gap from when i was in school and paid no attention to the...
Hey everyone! I haven't updated my original tank thread in over a year, so instead of trying to catch up, I thought I would make a new thread starting from where the aquarium is now.
If you would like to see the original thread, which shows how I put together most of the aquarium, you can go...

#1 - David finally hooked me. This is the beginning of a long journey of the first system put together by a close friend, Chris Boehm. He moved on to other display systems and ended up passing it on to me.
It's over 5 years old, but has been revamped many times.
I'm not sure if the hardscape...
Ok let’s get this started. As you can see my Reef Savvy tank has arrived in its fantastic crate! My anticipation for this tank and the build I’m about to embark on has been great to say the least. After a year of planning, lots discussions with Felix at Reef Savvy, and then some hard prep work...
Hi All,
Very excited to find a home to post my build thread. I hope you drop by to get updates or follow along with the journey.
I'm open to feedback and am thinking to make this hopefully detailed pic heavy.
Background
From Toronto, Canada... I started getting interested in the hobby...
So i decided to start up another tank after shutting down my FOWRL due to possibly moving house. My first tank was given to me by a friend which was 1200x600x450 which i had looking really nice until it crashed(Skimmer overflowed to waste and ATO kept filling fresh water) Then i upsized that to...
Hi all.
I would love to hear from reefers out there that are keeping mixed reefs of SPS and LPS, Zoas in the same tank.
What are the challenges : ie flow, lighting, nutrients
or does it all come down to acclimation of corals and placement.
I am about the start my own mixed reef which i was...
I'm new to R2R - only been here for a few weeks and finally getting around to posting an intro thread.
I have a 5+year old mixed reef that has been through all the stages our tanks go through from the, "New tank" stage, to the, "ugly algae tank" stage to the, "kills everything but the ugly...
when keeping a mixed reef do you think its best to go with a larger skimmer (well over rated for the tank) or a skimmer that is only slightly over rated for your tank?
Pro's / Cons?
Hey everyone! I've been around I think for a year now but never actually made a thread on my tanks progress or how I even started! So let me start by introducing myself then how I got to where I am currently on my tank. Hi! I'm Zachary, but usually go by Zach. I've been keeping freshwater fish...
I was looking at a butterfly, but I'm pretty nervous about it since I have a mixed reef with a little of everything. If it eats zoas I'm not really worried since I don't care for those corals but do have some. I do have some acros which I like but I'm more of a fan of lps corals any way. I was...
Who when we talk about mixed tank have macro-algae with their coral. Is it more difficult or easier to maintain.
I'm thinking of the ideal because i'll have tangs and they used to eat the macro's i use to give them from my refugium. So i see it as a pro what would be the cons.
So here is what my 92 gallon corner reef currently looks like. It has been running for 5 1/2 years consecutively (8 1/2 years total but I tore everything down for 6 months and left it dry after a bad velvet outbreak) and has had corals for the past year and a half. I'm really happy with how...
Hello everyone,
New to the forum here, and just wanted to say hello. I have a 41" x 24" x 24" and a 45Bow. Been out the hobby a few years and wow has technology changed. When i was setup a few years back, i had fish only in my big aquarium and freshwater in my 45 bow...
Hey guys.
My tank is turning a year old this week. My maintenance routine is 15% weekly water changes with sand "vacuuming" and glass cleaning. I run an Eshopps nano skimmer for additional filtration and just recently began running Chemipure Blue and GFO to help with water quality.
I'm running...
I'd like to display my 180 gallon mixed reef nicknamed "Blue World". Its a 6'x2'x2' glass visio tank with center back overflow. 40 gallon sump with filter socks, AM250 skimmer, live rock and Waveline DC6000 return pump.
Lights are 3 x Rapid LED Onyx. Outside two lights have 60 degree optics...
So the 120 has been taken down. I learned one very important lesson through this tank- never put an aquarium somewhere you don’t have to see it every day, multiple times a day. I stuck my 120 on the second floor of my house in the guest bedroom, where I never went except for the tank, and...

Current project! Upgrading from a 5' 110 gallon tank in our living room to a 6' long 135 gallon tank in our utility room and having it flush with the living room wall. I'm going slow with this build so I probably won't get the tank until January. For now I have to build the stand, prep the...
