So I have a Reefer 250 that has been running for about 5+ years and I have reached a point where I am needing to cut back corals because things are crowding each other out. The issues are these:
a. taking to a local store gives very low ball store credit
b. selling through an app like facebook...
Ive looked around and am posting this to help others in my situation, if you have suggestions, please add them in the thread so more people can know
These are in no particular order:
Pro Reef Aquatics: My store of choice, Good staff, heathy fish (there was an issue a few months back, but its...
Hello, I would like to see your views on LFS (not some bigbox store like petco/petsmart) when they lie/give false information to a hobbyist, in an attempt to sell fish, especially when they claim to be beginners. For example, saying that a juvenile emperor angelfish would do fine in a 75 gallon...
Hey hey Austinites. What's your favorite Austin area LFS? I've been to a couple so far, but wondering what everyone considers their go-to spot. Best livestock? Best equipment and dry goods? Most knowledgeable? Friendliest?
Admittedly a repost, but didn't get much action on the first one.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew of any lfs in the Miami Florida area that sells Mandarin Dragonets? I try to avoid buying fish online when I can but my lfs never seems to have any Mandarins.
Visiting Gatlinburg tn and am trying to find a lfs to check out.
But when i search for one on google all i get is ripleys aquarium or vsrious bait and tackle shops.
Anyone know a name of a place they would reccomen checking out?
I was in a LFS the other day and saw they had a group of chromis. Not of great interest to me, but a couple had red blotches and my amateur guess was a possible uronema infection given the reported prevalence.
It made me wonder, given the recommended "bleach everything and throw the rest away"...
TL;DR: - an 8 year old reef/ fish store specializing in a wide range of exotic to household name corals with multiple display tanks (gorgeous ones) and at least 8 frag tanks in the customer side of the store (and a dozen more in the back), and they don't know a single PAR value for what they...
Looking to open a LFS in my area soon. I know what my top items are but curious what others find to be their Must have items for any LFS to regularly stock. There have deffinatly been places I ask for one product and it is a special order or just not available and other stores that have a entire...
Im in riverside , CA does anyone have a connect for saltwater fish and coral, i know of a few places, I really like Petworld in San Bernardino. I've used Google and most of the big stores around me I didnt like. Im looking to see if there is other fish stores or someone who sells from there...
I’m about to pull the trigger on a waterbox 7225 which I’m very excited about. My debate is do I buy it online directly from waterbox and have them drop the pallet off in my driveway and deal with the tank on my own. Or do I go support my LFS and then pay them to deliver and place the tank?
The...
I know that marinecollectors.com does true and thorough quarantine for the fish they sell, but I was wondering whether there are other LFS options in the Los Angeles area that do reliable quarantine. I know some shops will indicate the date a fish has arrived in the shop, but I am unaware of any...
Hi there! My folks recently bought a condo in the St. Augustine/crescent beach area on Anastasia island, FL. My family has been going there for years and now that we own a place, we can go whenever we want! Which brings up the question:
Are there many good fish stores in the area? I would be...

Hey Im new to the hobby, tank running for 3 months now. Looking for good LFS to start adding more corals. What are your top 3 in south east michigan? What you think of my 40 breader so far
So I thought I'd share a bit of a story..I ordered a pail of Tropic Marin Pro-Reef salt and 2 peppermint shrimp to try and battle my apstatia from Candy Corals, here in Canada.
I waited for the confirmation email and possibly more shipping charges, based on the 50+ lbs pail of salt, and wait...
I've been on the hunt for fish lately and I've come across a few sites that post pictures of fish out of the water. When I see it displayed like that I find something disturbing about it, which makes me not want to buy from the LFS/Online store. Part of me thinks that the store doesn't have...
Hey I'm new in the Tampa area and I'm trying to find a good LFS, I'm trying to get ro water and the store I've been going to around here has been terrible. The water I got there smelled like rotten eggs and I picked up some emerald crabs and they died shortly after I got them. So if you know any...
Helllo reefers,
I was recently at a LFS in NJ and saw quarter sized frags of GSP for $30 each. Personally, I felt bad for anyone silly enough to pay that. In NJ you can grab a frag from craigslist for about $10-$15. Obviously online retail is a whole different ball game.
I'm just curious what...
My photography is still a work in progress.
Almost twenty years ago to the day, ten-year-old me opened a large rectangular gift. A 20g aquarium, a hood and a light, and a HOB filter. That gift would ultimately land me here writing this post. Being the product of an avid diver and a diving...
I just bought a new torch coral frag from my LFS that was open and beautiful when purchased. Whenever I got it home and it was closed up, I noticed something hard and dark growing from the skeleton of the coral. The coral is currently in coral dip and I didn’t think to grab a picture before I...
